Clovis utility worker dies attempting to restore power amid storms
A Clovis lineman died Friday after a utility pole fell into standing water and electrocuted him as he worked to repair it following heavy rains, according to the Curry County Sheriff’s Office.

A utility worker died near Clovis on Friday after being electrocuted while attempting to repair a utility pole that leaned out of place amid heavy rains, the Curry County Sheriff’s Office said.
Curry County sheriff’s deputies, along with the Clovis Fire Department, were dispatched around 10:30 a.m. to a rural area just outside the city due to an industrial accident.
When crews arrived, the Clovis Fire Department rescued the employee from several feet of standing water and began rendering first aid.
Deputies identified the employee, a lineman, as Mr. Ian Massey of Clovis, New Mexico. Deputies learned that the utility pole unexpectedly fell into the standing water that Massey had been working in, causing Massey to come into contact with electricity.
He was transported to the Plains Regional Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.
