SANTA FE, N.M.

The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a fatal crash that killed two individuals.

On Wednesday, September 16, at 7:34 a.m., deputies were dispatched to Highway 84/285 regarding a motor vehicle crash with injuries.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they located the two individuals being treated by medical personnel from the Santa Fe County Fire Department.

A 74-year-old woman succumbed to her injuries on scene, and a 77-year-old male was transported to Christus St. Vincent Hospital, where he also succumbed to his injuries sustained in the crash.

Preliminary information indicates that a vehicle traveling south in the southbound lane left the roadway and struck the two individuals who were located outside of their parked vehicle on the shoulder of the highway. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor.

The victims have been identified as 74-year-old Diane Bustos and 77-year-old Andy Bustos. A third victim was transported to Christus St. Vincent Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the other vehicle, a 33-year-old male and two occupants, age 6 and 9, did not require transport for medical attention at the time of the incident.

The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Division is currently investigating the cause of the crash. This is an active and ongoing investigation.
