Nearly $6 million awarded to expand public Wi-Fi across New Mexico
The state’s broadband office awarded nearly $6 million to expand public Wi-Fi access across New Mexico.
More than 4 million visitors, students and residents across New Mexico are expected to benefit from expanded public Wi-Fi after the state awarded nearly $6 million in grants for connectivity projects.
The Office of Broadband Access and Expansion approved nine grants through its ARPA Community Wi-Fi Project. The program is designed to help municipal, county and regional governments and state agencies expand Wi-Fi access in public spaces, including city and state parks, public housing, civic spaces, community centers and senior centers.
The grants will target areas with limited connectivity and fewer opportunities for digital access.
State and local parks are among the locations targeted for the projects.
The grants total $5,941,326 and are funded through the American Rescue Plan Act Capital Projects Fund.
