Fiesta de Santa Fe celebrates tradition and history
“It’s a tradition we want to keep alive. It’s hard to believe, but these traditions started back in the 1600s when the Pueblo Revolt happened,” said Lorenzo Montoya.

Santa Fe Plaza was buzzing with excitement this weekend at the 314th Fiesta de Santa Fe.
The annual event is a celebration of the Pueblo Revolt that resulted in the resettlement of Santa Fe in 1692. The first Fiesta took place in 1712 and has become a Santa Fe tradition.
Sunday’s event schedule featured the popular Bandstand on the Plaza. A number of groups danced and performed at Santa Fe Plaza, including the Bernalillo-based group Los Matachines de Bernalillo.
“It’s hard to believe, but these traditions started back in the 1600s when the Pueblo Revolt happened,” said Lorenzo Montoya, who is a member of Los Matachines de Bernalillo. “The first time we danced was in 1693, and we hope to keep this tradition going.”
