Lobo football has record-setting day beating Mercyhurst 70-7

Lobos scored a program-record 42 points in the second quarter

Lobo Nation was treated to a barn burner as the University of New Mexico (UNM) defeated the Mercyhurst Lakers 70-7. New Mexico scored a program-record 42 points in the second quarter, accounting for six touchdowns to take a 49-7 halftime lead, tying a program-record for points in a first half set in 2008. The 42-point outburst was the most in program history and second-most in Mountain West history.

The Lobos forced six turnovers and scoring 21 points off of them. On offense the Lobos rushed for 287 yards and seven touchdowns. Senior running back Scottre Humphrey led the team with 110 yards and two touchdowns. UNM continued this game with rotating starting quarterbacks. Sophomore Toa Fa’avae and junior Luke Moga combined for 173 yards passing and three touchdowns. UNM has now won nine consecutive home games.

The Lobos will now travel to Norman, Oklahoma to take on the University of Oklahoma, kickoff is set for next Saturday, September 19, at 5:30 p.m. on ESPN2.
