Santa Fe man charged in shooting death of his sister

A Santa Fe man is facing charges in connection with the shooting death of his sister on Saturday.
Yasell Sandoval Sigala, 21, is facing charges of involuntary manslaughter for causing the death of his sister, Alexia Verdugo Sigala, 24.
On Sept. 5, at approximately 1:45 p.m., police were called to a residence in the area of Rufina Street and Atocha Road in reference to an “accidental” shooting.
Officers arrived and located Alexia Sigala with a gunshot wound.
She was transported by Santa Fe Fire Department paramedics to a local hospital and later airlifted to UNMH in Albuquerque. She succumbed to her injuries at UNMH.
Through investigation, officers and detectives learned that Yasell Sigala had allegedly discharged a rifle unintentionally, and she was struck in the torso.
Detectives interviewed him and seized the firearm as evidence. The crime scene was also processed for evidence.
