GoPro joyrider arrested on numerous charges
Dekorey Stevenson eluded Albuquerque Police and Sandoval County Sheriff’s deputies on his motorcycle – while recording everything on a GoPro camera. He eventually crashed his bike and was taken into custody.
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. —
It began as a joyride for an Albuquerque man on Friday. It ended in a crash and a trip to jail. It was all recorded on a GoPro camera mounted on a motorcycle helmet.
According to a criminal complaint, Dekorey Stevenson was spotted by police riding his motorcycle at a high rate of speed near Central Avenue SW and Tingley Avenue SW.
Court records say Albuquerque Police activated Air Support to track Stevenson, locating him near Martin Luther King Boulevard NE and I-25. Stevenson then led police on a chase at speeds exceeding 100 mph.
Police say Stevenson eventually exited I-25, then traveled west on U.S. Highway 550. At that point, Sandoval County Sheriff’s deputies began pursuing Stevenson.
Court records say Stevenson eventually crashed his motorcycle and was captured by SCSO deputies in the mesa.
Once in custody, Stevenson told officers he thought the chase was “fun,” as he recorded everything on a GoPro camera. He faces 24 charges, which include aggravated fleeing from a law enforcement officer, reckless driving, driving with no lights and driving with no insurance.
