Hottest day of the week:
The heat will top out today, with scattered storms sticking to the northern and central parts of the state. Heat advisories are in effect again today for the southeast and south-central New Mexico.
New Mexico fires:
Firefighters battling the 15,000-acre Frijoles fire in Santa Fe County are dealing with a security incident at their base camp and mourning the loss of a team member. Meanwhile in the Manzano Mountains, the Cerro and Blanco fires started Monday and have burned 10 acres each.
BCSO ends 3 contracts with Flock cameras:
Automated license plate readers, known as Flock cameras, have been in use in Bernalillo County to help investigations ranging from stolen vehicles to missing persons cases and violent crimes.
Now, the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office said it’s ending all of the contracts, citing concerns over data privacy.
Roswell faces dispatcher shortage:
The city of Roswell has six open dispatcher positions, prompting the city to seek temporary solutions while working to hire permanent employees. The center dispatches police, fire, and other emergency services across Chaves County.
Project Jupiter put on hold:
The New Mexico Supreme Court has issued a stay in an emergency drilling authorization to allow use of water from a well for the construction of Project Jupiter in Doña Ana County. State representatives are now searching for answers about the center’s water usage.
New Mexico Hosts Gubernatorial Forum:
CREDA New Mexico will host the 2026 New Mexico Gubernatorial Forum on Tuesday between the state’s two major-party candidates for governor (Deb Haaland and Gregg Hull).
The two will discuss the future of New Mexico’s economy, businesses and communities.
Canada set to announce new tariffs on U.S.:
The U.S.-Canada trade war is heating up after President Donald Trump implemented tariffs of 50% on cars, steel and other goods. Canada is now retaliating with tariffs of its own, which it will announce Tuesday.
This comes as talks over a potential trade deal fell apart.
