Megan Moroney sold out Bridgestone Arena not one, but two nights in Nashville over the weekend. Friday and Saturday (Aug. 21 and 22) were part of her Cloud 9 Tour, and after attending the Friday show, here are some key takeaways I noted.
The entire arena was a sea of hues of pink, all fans eager to sing every Moroney song. Admittedly, it was my first Moroney concert, and I didn’t realize how vast an age range the singer draws to her concerts.
There was something I observed that I want to make sure Moroney gets her flowers for. Having personally followed the singer’s career for a while now, I was beyond proud of the version of Moroney that was standing on stage. She is a true superstar!
Previously, I have watched Moroney learn how to get comfortable singing in front of thousands of people, and how to mix being active on stage while also holding steadiness in her vocals.
Friday, she proved she could easily take home an Entertainer of the Year award one day.
There was an ease about her on stage, a confidence in her vocals, and that woman was running all around that stage, but never missed a beat.
Honestly, multiple times I thought to myself, she’s pretty much doing a HIIT workout up there and clearly has trained for this.
One thing that was deeply cemented in my mind was the incredible loyalty of her fans. Between the singing back with full conviction to every one of the singer’s songs, to yelling loudly after Moroney was done, her fans love her.
This night wasn’t just special for fans, it was deeply personal for the singer.
“It feels very full circle,” Moroney tells the crowd. “I moved to town in 2020, so six years ago, and I never imagined I could sell out Bridgestone Arena twice. I can’t thank you enough for the love and support you have shown me throughout these year.”
What Was the Production Like?
The ‘Cloud 9 Tour’ holds nothing back when it comes to stage extravagance and production. It truly felt like I had stepped inside a Barbie dream home!
Moroney is a storytelling mastermind, and I feel like this show gave me a peek into the way her brain works. From the LED panels that were used as storybooks to her songs, to the window the singer sat in that was levitating in the air, nothing was held back.
Honestly, it reminded me a lot of Carrie Underwood’s Las Vegas residency or Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour— both of which, through stage props, brought their songs to life. Moroney did the same.
Who Were the Surprise Guests?
On Friday, Moroney brought out friends Dan + Shay to sing their hit song, “Tequila.” Then on Saturday, the “Cloud 9” singer brought out Lady A to sing a live rendition of their Grammy-winning smash hit “Need You Now”.
Just when fans thought that they might be the only musical guests, out walks Kenny Chesney to sing his duet with Moroney: “You Had To Be There.”
What was Friday’s Set List?
In total, Moroney sang a whopping 28 songs! This girl was hustling and making sure none of her fans left disappointed. There was truly a song for everyone. Moroney is about to close out the America leg of her tour, wrapping things up in Denver, Colo., on Aug. 27.
