Hot temperatures continue Sunday with heat alerts expected south and east

Scattered showers and storms will favor the western and northern mountains.

Our weekend will finish with continued heat. You can expect a lot of sunshine on Sunday, boosting temperatures well above average.

Highs across the Albuquerque metro push toward 97 degrees, challenging the current record, which sits at 97. Santa Fe’s record of 92 will likely stay put with a forecast high of only 89.

Watch for evening clouds to increase, so a spot shower or isolated storm is possible before midnight. Most of the scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms will favor the western and northern mountains on Sunday afternoon.

Much of the state will be near record highs both on Sunday and through much of next week. Another heat advisory is likely on Sunday for Quay and Chaves Counties, with the potential for daytime highs to reach 107 degrees in some locations.

It’s always a good idea to limit your time outdoors, take breaks, and stay hydrated in the summer heat.
