Record-challenging heat and monsoon storms

Back to the bake with near-100 degree temperatures and limited monsoon storms

The heat dome is back and centered over New Mexico this week, which will allow temperatures to return to record-challenging levels mid- to late-week.

100 degrees is within reach for Albuquerque. And if it does hit 100 degrees, it would be one of the top five latest 100 degree temperatures on record for Albuquerque. Stay hydrated and never leave people or pets in vehicles.

Monsoon storms will be limited as we recycle monsoon moisture under the heat dome through the week. There will be weak easterly pushes of moisture, but no major monsoon surges are on the horizon. That said, any monsoon storm is capable of producing heavy rainfall and localized flooding.

Forecast weather computer models are suggesting a possible breakdown of the heat dome by the end of the month, which could bring a break in the hot temperatures.
