Bear returns to a Kentucky porch while woman cooked sloppy Joes, days after eating her leftover KFC
A southeastern Kentucky woman says she woke up to a startling mess after a bear wandered into her home and helped itself to her dinner.
Kendra North said she and her partner accidentally left their front door open Wednesday night because the living room and kitchen of their home in Harlan County do not have air conditioning.
The couple went to sleep in their bedroom and didn’t realize the bear had entered their home before it was too late.
North said the bear ate all of the KFC she had left on her glass table, which was also now destroyed.
She said she slept through the encounter, but her sister, who lives across the yard in another mobile home on the same property, was woken up by the bear.
North estimated the bear may have weighed between 600 and 700 pounds.
And North said the bear sightings didn’t stop there.
Just two days after the bear entered her home, North said she was cooking sloppy joes around 7 p.m. when she turned around and saw another bear on her porch.
She believes that bear was a cub and estimated it weighed around 300 pounds.
“The bear issue is getting ridiculous,” North said.
She said the encounters have left her frightened that another bear could make its way inside.
“I’m scared to death it’ll get in again,” she said.
North said she is now making sure the front door stays closed, even though the lack of air conditioning makes that difficult.
“I keep that front door shut good though at night now, and apparently 7 p.m. is bear time now, too,” she said.
