More impact heat this weekend, before a break next week

Near-100° record-challenging heat hold through the weekend into early next week. Remember to stay hydrated and never leave people or pets in vehicles. The heat dome responsible for the heat wave looks to shift slightly east later next week, allowing for a little less heat. However, temperatures look to remain hotter than normal for this time of year. Air quality will be impacted for some areas too, as wildfire smoke circulates around the heat dome. Sensitive groups should limit outdoor activities when the visibility drops in smoke.
Monsoon storm chances look to remain fairly limited and favor the Central and Southern Mountains as well as the western high terrain through the weekend. Easterly moisture pushes look to increase mid- to late-next week as the heat dome retreats a bit. This should allow for better opportunities for much needed rain. Any monsoon thunderstorm can produce flooding rainfall. Always avoid arroyos, ditches, and water-covered roads.
