Dust storm may have caused train derailment in southern New Mexico
No one was injured, but nearly 50 cars were derailed in the incident.
HIDALGO COUNTY, N.M. —
A dust storm may have played a role in a train derailment that took place Saturday in southern New Mexico.
According to Hidalgo County Fire Rescue, the derailment occurred along the Interstate 10 corridor near mile marker 34. Nearly 50 cars were derailed, but no one was injured.
Fire officials believe high winds and visibility issues from the dust storm could have caused the derailment. There was no threat to the public.
