We told you: keep your word or pay the price. Reality is knocking,” Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said on social media. The exchange of fire over the weekend was also paired with an exchange of threats. Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei vowed to avenge the killing of his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who died in the war’s opening strikes. There were open calls for Trump’s death at the former supreme leader’s recent funeral. Trump suggested in a social media post that he has left a standing order for the U.S. military to destroy Iran if Tehran attempts to assassinate him, saying, “A thousand missiles are locked and loaded and aimed.” Experts say that if Trump were to be killed, Vice President JD Vance would have the authority to order any potential retaliation.
