Kelsea Ballerini Shares Financial Advice for Women After Divorce

Date:

Kelsea Ballerini is offering some hard-earned advice to women navigating serious relationships: Protect yourself financially.

The country singer recently opened up about what she’s learned through her own experiences, encouraging women to have honest conversations about money before getting married, buying a home, or combining finances.

While Ballerini said she’s hesitant to continue discussing her own divorce, she believes one lesson is worth sharing.

Kelsea Ballerini’s Advice to Women

During an appearance on the Richer Lives podcast, Ballerini said financial transparency should be a priority for couples taking major steps together.

“I’m very wary to speak on divorce anymore,” she said. “I will say, just in the name of talking to women strictly through the lens of financial, I think when you are entering into buying a house with somebody or opening a joint account with somebody or getting married and joining all of it, the most important thing you can do is have financial transparency.”

She noted that many women today are earning as much as—or even more than—their partners, making those conversations even more important.

I think more and more in today’s culture and society and truly, thank God, oftentimes the income is either a match or we have a lot of women breadwinners now. Which is even more reason to really be transparent on where it’s coming from, how you’re blending it, where it’s going, and how to protect it as a unit.

Her biggest takeaway? Even in the healthiest relationships, she believes it’s important to be prepared for the unexpected.

Prepare for the worst for yourself,” Ballerini said. “You just truly never know where life’s going to bring you.”

A Season of Change

Ballerini’s comments come during a period of significant change in her personal life.

Her divorce from fellow country singer Morgan Evans was finalized on Nov. 3, 2022, ending nearly five years of marriage.

Earlier this year, reports confirmed she and actor Chase Stokes had ended their relationship after first going public as a couple in 2023. The two had previously been living together.

In the weeks following the breakup, Ballerini shared a reflective message on social media that hinted at the personal growth she’s experienced through life’s challenges.

“This year asked you to shed layers you didn’t even realize you were still carrying,” the post read. “But look at you. You’re still here. Wiser. Stronger.”

She’s also embraced another fresh start, temporarily relocating to New York City as she enters a new chapter in both her personal life and career.

While Ballerini has made it clear she doesn’t want to define herself by past relationships, her latest comments suggest she’s carrying those experiences forward in a different way—by encouraging other women to protect themselves financially, no matter how strong their relationship may seem.
