A shipment of the hot sauce “Frank’s RedHot” got detoured when a leak was discovered from a semi in Ohio this week, according to officials.
The BST&G Fire District, which serves several communities north of Columbus, said on Tuesday that it was dispatched due to a big rig leaking something on major thoroughfare Interstate 71.
“Ultimately, the semi got off the highway and to one of the truck stops. The mystery fluid turnout out to be a trailer full of 40,000 lbs. of Frank’s Red Hot leaking!” the fire district said on Facebook.
The spill posed concerns about possible environmental effects. The hot sauce is acidic, and the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency was called in and responders attempted to contain the substance so it wouldn’t go into drains, the Columbus Dispatch reported.
Comments on the fire district’s post included jokes about wasted sauce and others saying the liquid was hard to wash off of cars.
The impact to hot wings, pizza slices, red beans and rice or any other dishes was not immediately clear.
