A family has filed a wrongful death lawsuit following a deadly hit and run crash involving former Republican Party of New Mexico Treasurer, Kimberly Skaggs.Andrew Brown, 40, died after he was struck while riding his bicycle on North Fairacres Road in Las Cruces, NM. Brown was known as a devoted father who dreamed of becoming a barber and mentoring at risk youth.According to evidence, Andrew was riding his bike when his bicycle was hit and shattered into several pieces. A witness told deputies that Skaggs got out of her car, observed Brown lying in the roadway, then got back into the SUV without attempting to render aid.Skaggs was later arrested and charged in connection to the deadly hit and run. She is currently being held without bond.”I lost one of my best friends, and my son was robbed of his father. Andrew loved our son with all his heart,” Andrew’s former partner Santana Santiago says. She says he hoped to one day open a community radio station where he could mentor at-risk youth and encourage them to choose a different path than the one he once traveled.Andrew Brown’s family says they hope this lawsuit not only holds the defendant accountable, but also ensures Andrew is remembered for the compassionate, kind-hearted man he was.
