Clint Black was a guest on Taste of Country Nights where we chatted about trash talking in the ’90s between country music artists.
Black said “There was a little bit of trash talk back then but it wasn’t as widely known.”
“Garth [Brooks] would say things about me like ‘You know, you really wanna hate this guy but you can’t because he’s so nice,'” Black remembers.

Clint Black talked about a more widely heard of rivalry in country music in the ’90s between Travis Tritt and Billy Ray Cyrus, over Cyrus’ then-new hit rendition of “Achy Breaky Heart.”
“I know Tritt kind of laid into Billy Ray a little bit and we all laughed about the Billy Ray thing, we didn’t know what was gonna happen with that phenomenon,” he continued.

According to The Boot, the feud between Travis Tritt and Billy Ray Cyrus started in 1992 when Tritt publicly criticized Cyrus’ massive hit “Achy Breaky Heart” . He called the song “frivolous” and complained that its popularity risked turning country music into an “a—wiggling contest.”
