Breezy to windy conditions lead to Red Flag Warnings for fire danger this afternoon

Small storm chances in play for Tuesday as fire danger conditions are expected to continue

Horizon but still up above the horizon only probably for *** couple more minutes. Our weather headlines here reasonable heat to start this week with fire danger concerns. Small storm chances to monitor mainly for eastern New Mexico. By the end of the week, towards the weekend and the 4th of July on Saturday, we will have hotter temperatures. Big wedge of orange shaded dry air here on the water vapor loop just going to shut down storm chances for most, but not all of. Mexico, note we’ve got that moisture over the southeast, and that moisture creeps *** little bit further to the west tomorrow. Today highs 80s, 90s, maybe around 100 for Carlsbad, but that’s really the only spot with *** shot at touching the triple digits. I cannot rule out *** couple of isolated storms for the southeast, but it is not going to be much. Rest of us with just *** little cloud cover around. I note the afternoon wind speeds, you know, teens, 20s common. Stronger wind gusts in the 30s could hit both western and far northeast. New Mexico and you know the West and the Northeast and much of Colorado is where we have today’s red flag warnings for the critically dangerous fire weather conditions. Overnight tonight, lows back in the 50s, 60s to around 70 down south, seeing signs that this moisture is going to creep back into central New Mexico. So tomorrow, you know, as far west as like Albuquerque, Santa Fe, and Socorro will have *** slight chance at an isolated storm, *** better chance that scattered showers and thunderstorms will be in play out into eastern New Mexico. And tomorrow is yet another day with highs only in the 80s and 90s, not really eyeing up much in the way of triple digit potential. I do think tomorrow’s wind gusts probably come in *** little stronger than today, especially here through central New Mexico and all the tan shaded areas, much of the west, central, uh, northeast, much of Colorado. Once again with fire weather watches that will be, um, upgraded or I guess downgraded depending upon how you look at it for, uh, uh, red flag warnings for the critically dangerous fire weather. Here’s your forecast for northwest New Mexico in the Four Corners area. Keep the highs in the 80s today. We do spike at about 90 tomorrow in Farmington. We’ll keep the high right around 90, give or take, through Thursday, and then we do creep up just *** little bit by Friday and for the upcoming weekend. No rain chance for you though here in northwest New Mexico. For the southwest, Silver City at 88, it’s middle and upper 90s off the mountains. Similar temperatures going forward for the next several days, *** little hotter by the end of the week. We’re not really talking about any kind of *** rain chance until. Perhaps late on the 4th of July or maybe Sunday the 5th here in southwest Mexico. For the Southeast, this is probably the most active corner of the state. We’re still up near 100 around Artesia and Carlsbad, 97 for you today in Roswell. Uh, there could be an isolated storm, you know, in the southeast corner of the state. We’ll watch it more so in Hobbs than in other spots. Uh, better storm chances in play though tomorrow and Wednesday. Note, we’re going to keep highs in the 90s here for several days. By the end of the week as those storm chances dry up. For us, we do spike into the triple digits and then on Sunday maybe you see another better chance that storms return. Here’s northeast New Mexico. We’re in the 80s and Santa Rosa hits 94 degrees. These numbers about average for the time of year. While we’re dry today. Tomorrow does bring *** thundershower chance, *** lower chance in play on Wednesday, and then we’re back to dry skies Thursday, Friday. We’re up around 90 by the end of the week. The 4th is probably dry, but Sunday could bring *** return to the storm chances. North central New Mexico, generally in the 70s and 80s to about. 90 degrees there in the Espanola Valley. Heat really not too bad today. It’s going to be *** pretty pleasant Monday, granted, breezy to windy during the afternoon. Maybe an isolated storm chance tomorrow, otherwise we’re dry going forward, *** little closer to 90 by the end of the week and the Fourth of July for the Albuquerque Metro. Lower 90s, our average for the time of year. We’ll be in the mid 90s in the River Valley and for areas around Los Luas and Bolin, there’s our average high at 92. Tomorrow with that 10% storm chance that we could have some virgo around that evaporating rain that kicks out the wind. Uh, we’re breezy and *** little bit hotter towards the end of the week. Fourth of July has us up at 96. After tomorrow’s slight chance at *** storm, we’ll look all the way towards the end of the weekend, Sunday, uh, before that next small chance at *** storm comes back into play.

We are enjoying a very pleasant start to this Monday with mostly sunny skies and comfortable temperatures; winds have laid down nicely for us as well. Later this afternoon we will see breezy to windy conditions redevelop though; however, it does not look like the wind speeds will get as strong as Sunday afternoon. It will be enough wind for Red Flag Warnings for dangerous fire weather conditions to be issued around the western and northern edges of the viewing area, and also for Northeast New Mexico. There is only one corner of the state to watch this afternoon for a slight chance of rain and storms, and that’s the southeast.Tomorrow we tap into a little better moisture feed and also back that moisture a little further to the west, so not only will there be a better chance of showers and thunderstorms over Eastern New Mexico, but we will also have to watch for an isolated storm around Albuquerque or probably more likely some spots of virga which is that evaporating rain that can kick up those strong wind gusts. The amount of area in New Mexico that will be under a Red Flag Warning for extreme fire danger tomorrow will be much greater than what we see today. On Wednesday it looks like the moisture will get shoved to the east again, so Albuquerque will be back to dry skies and any wetting rains will stay east. By Thursday, another push eastward of moisture will even dry out most of Eastern New Mexico, and Friday and Saturday the 4th will be days with little to no storm coverage around the state and slightly hotter temperatures. Then there could be an increase in rain and storm coverage on Sunday afternoon, especially it looks like over Eastern New Mexico
