DWI Unit arrests 3 impaired drivers overnight
Santa Fe police arrest Omar Valenzuela-Ochoa, Oscar Bojorquez Licano and Gerald Talachy.
Three impaired drivers were arrested in the New Mexico capital late Saturday and early Sunday, a Santa Fe Police Department news release said.First, SFPD officers responded to a single-vehicle crash near Agua Fria Road and Camino Vista Verde around 9:40 p.m. When they arrived, the driver of a wrecked truck had already left the scene.Police began a search for the driver on foot, assisted by a drone. Soon after, SFPD got a 911 call from Omar Valenzuela-Ochoa, 45, who said his truck had been stolen. Police went to his home, where he showed signs of impairment and injuries consistent with having been in a vehicle crash, the release said.Valenzuela-Ochoa told police he hadn’t been the driver, but he was taken into custody after an investigation showed otherwise. He agreed to take a breathalyzer test that showed he was twice the legal limit.After seeing a surveillance video of him driving the truck, Valenzuela-Ochoa admitted he had been driving it. He was booked into the Santa Fe County Adult Detention Facility and charged with aggravated driving (DWI, 1st offense), reckless driving, and not reporting an accident, the release said.Second, after getting a report of people arguing at Lulu’s Kitchen at 3011 Cerrillos Road around 12:52 a.m. that night, SFPD officers saw Oscar Bojorquez Licano, 32, who had been involved in the argument and was trying to leave in a vehicle while showing signs of impairment. Police stopped him, and he was taken into custody, the release said.Licano agreed to a breath test, which showed him with a .18 and .18 result. He also had been driving with a revoked license from a prior DWI offense.Licano was booked into the Santa Fe County Adult Detention Facility and charged with aggravated DWI, negligent use of a deadly weapon, driving with a revoked license (DWI-related), and open container.Third, around 2:30 a.m., the SFPD DWI Unit observed a vehicle driving without headlights and taillights on near West Alameda and Don Gasper. The driver, Gerald Talachy, 27, appeared to be impaired, and he was taken into custody. He agreed to a breath test that had a result of .16 and .16, the release said.Talachy was booked into the Santa Fe County Adult Detention Facility and charged with aggravated DWI, and no headlights, taillights, and license plate lights on as required.
