Two gunshot victims reported after shots fired at South Carolina mall
We’re interrupting your programming right now as we follow breaking news out of Greenwood Greenville County, excuse me. This is following, uh, police are saying multiple people are injured after *** shooting occurred at the Haywood Mall. Now right now we do have crews live on the scene. Our Caitlyn Ashbaug arrived just moments ago. Caitlin, you’re there, you’re seeing this. What do we know so far? Hey Leo, we can confirm that shooting. We know that at least 2 victims have been transported to the hospital with injuries, and earlier today we saw that stretcher come out of Haywood Mall. This is the food court area on Haywood Road, and we saw that stretcher come out, as I mentioned, we can’t confirm that those 2 victims were injured and sent to the hospital after the shooting, and we do know that officers are currently working to clear the mall. That happened *** few just *** few minutes ago we got that notification and since then we’ve been kind of tracking the scene as you can see lots of crime scene tape, lots of first responders here, lots of blue and red lights here. There is *** huge amount of traffic just surrounding the area around the mall. I mean coming into this area from the interstate, you saw people who were being guided through traffic to take other routes because there’s *** huge backup here and we do know at this time people inside that we heard from, they were on lockdown for *** while. As of right now we have heard that they’re working to clear the mall, but they said that they remember hearing the gunshots. We got those reports starting about roughly an hour ago and since then we’ve been working to find information for you right now. We can also see several groups of people who were inside the mall. It looks like they are. Standing on the outskirts of the mall in the parking lot, many of them on the phone. It seems like they may be calling loved ones, letting them know that they’re OK. But at this time we know that there are several people who have been detained in this effort. No shots have been fired since officers arrived on scene, but we are working to learn more, of course. Officials responded to a shooting at the Haywood Mall on Haywood Road in Greenville, South Carolina, just after 1 p.m. on Saturday.The Greenville Police Department has confirmed that two victims were transported to the hospital with injuries.Officers are working with the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office to clear the mall at this time. Authorities say several individuals have been detained, and no other shots have been fired since officers arrived at the scene. Officers say they are setting up a designated area on the ground floor of the parking garage at Dillard’s as a pickup spot for anyone who was dropped off at the mall.Greenlink is bringing a bus with air conditioning for people to wait in and stay cool. The mall will remain closed until further notice.
