Skies dry out and temperatures soar this afternoon, Red Flag Warnings again for Southwest Colorado

Another hot one tomorrow, then watching for strong east winds Thursday night

CHECK OUT THIS VIEW. BRIGHTENING SKIES. THAT’S THE SANTA FE PLAZA, WHERE WE HAVE TEMPERATURES DOWN IN THE 50S THIS MORNING. IT’S A VERY PLEASANT START TO THIS WEDNESDAY AND ENJOY THE MORNING BECAUSE WE ARE GOING TO TURN THE TEMPERATURE UP THIS AFTERNOON. THAT’S THE STORY FOR THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS. STORM CHANCES ALL DONE RIDING UP SOME PRETTY OPPRESSIVE HEAT. NOW EAST WINDS. THEY’RE GOING TO FIND US THURSDAY NIGHT. FRIDAY MORNING. WE’VE BEEN TALKING ABOUT THAT ALL WEEK. STILL LOOKS LIKE IT’S ON TRACK TO HIT. AND THEN THAT WILL ACT TO TAKE SOME HEAT OUT OF THE FORECAST FOR THE WEEKEND. ALSO BRING THOSE STORM CHANCES BACK. YOU CAN SEE WE WORK SOME DRY AIR IN FROM THE WEST, JUST ABOUT ALL OF NEW MEXICO WITH THOSE ORANGE SHADES. NOW, AS WE EYE UP THE FORECAST TODAY AND BASICALLY KEEP SKIES SUNNY. NOTE THIS FAR SOUTHEAST CORNER OF THE STATE, LIKELY SOUTH AND EAST OF CARLSBAD AND HOBBS, BUT AROUND JUUL THERE COULD BE A COUPLE OF STORMS. OTHERWISE, IT’S JUST ABOUT TRYING TO STAY COOL WITH THE BRIGHT SKIES AND HIGHS IN THE 90S AND TRIPLE DIGITS WIND GUSTS THIS AFTERNOON. NOT REALLY PROBLEMATIC FOR ALBUQUERQUE, BUT AROUND THE WESTERN AND NORTHERN EDGES OF THE STATE. WE GUST INTO THE 20S AND MAYBE GUSTS 30 PLUS THERE ALONG THE NEW MEXICO COLORADO STATE LINE. THAT’S ENOUGH WIND IN SOUTHERN COLORADO FOR RED FLAG WARNINGS. AGAIN, LONG DURATION ON THESE TWO FROM TEN THIS MORNING ALL THE WAY UNTIL TEN THIS EVENING. 12 HOURS OF CRITICALLY DANGEROUS FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS OVERNIGHT TONIGHT. CLEAR SKIES. LOWS 5060S MAY HOLD IN THE 70S IN PARTS OF SOUTHERN NEW MEXICO, THOUGH WE LOOK AHEAD TOWARDS TOMORROW. EVERY BIT AS HOT AS TODAY. EVEN WITH MAYBE A LITTLE MORE LATER DAY CLOUD COVER AROUND. BUT THE STORY IS GENERALLY SUN FILLED SKIES. HIGHS 90 TRIPLE DIGITS NOW. ON THURSDAY AFTERNOON. THE WINDS DON’T LOOK TO BE TOO PROBLEMATIC. NOTE AT 6:00 THURSDAY EVENING, WE’VE GOT THIS EAST WIND FIELD BACKING INTO NORTHEAST NEW MEXICO. AND THOSE WINDS SLAM BACK INTO ALBUQUERQUE RIGHT AROUND MIDNIGHT THURSDAY NIGHT, EARLY FRIDAY MORNING. THERE WE ARE, GUSTING TO 47MPH. AND IT STAYS THAT WINDY UNTIL ABOUT 5 A.M. ON FRIDAY. THEN FRIDAY MORNING, THOSE WINDS WILL START TO STEP DOWN IN STRENGTH AFTER SUNRISE. BUT IT’S GOING TO BE A BIT OF A ROUGH RIDE THURSDAY NIGHT. FRIDAY MORNING. AGAIN, THAT’S THAT EAST WIND EVENT THAT WE’VE BEEN TALKING ABOUT ALL WEEK LONG. LOOKS LIKE IT IS ON TRACK TO HAPPEN. HIGHS. UPPER 80S LOWER 90S GENERALLY AT 90 OR ABOVE HERE IN NORTHWEST NEW MEXICO. THE FOUR CORNERS AREA WILL TURN IT DOWN ONE DEGREE TOMORROW AND THEN TURN IT UP A COUPLE FRIDAY. SATURDAY 95 AND 94. IT’S ABOVE 90 EVERY DAY. THIS SEVEN DAY STRETCH, MAYBE AN ISOLATED STORM ON SATURDAY. SUNDAY SOUTHWEST MEXICO 93. SILVER CITY UP AROUND 100 OFF THE MOUNTAINS. LOOK AT T OR C AROUND THE ELEPHANT BUTTE 102 THIS AFTERNOON. WOULDN’T IT BE FUN TO TAKE A DIP RIGHT. TWO HOTTER. TOMORROW WE’RE DOWN TO 91 FRIDAY AND IT’S THESE DAILY STORM CHANCES FRIDAY THROUGH MONDAY. HIGHS AROUND 90 THROUGH THAT STRETCH. HERE’S SOUTHEAST NEW MEXICO. SOME BIG NUMBERS ON THE THERMOMETER IN SOUTHEAST NEW MEXICO THIS AFTERNOON. 103 ROSWELL 105 CARLSBAD. REMEMBER WE TALKED ABOUT THAT JAL NEW MEXICO STORM POSSIBILITY. OTHERWISE WE ARE DRY. ALAMOGORDO GOT YOU AT 99. TOMORROW COULD BE ONE HOTTER, IT LOOKS LIKE. AND WE’RE STILL DRY. MOSTLY SUNNY. WE DO. AFTER THOSE EAST WINDS HIT ON FRIDAY MORNING. TURN THE TEMPERATURE DOWN INTO THE UPPER 90S AND ITS DAILY STORM CHANCES HERE. FRIDAY. SATURDAY. SUNDAY. MONDAY. NORTHEAST NEW MEXICO. ON THE PLUS SIDE OF 90 DEGREES. LOOK AT SANTA ROSA AT 98 THIS AFTERNOON. WE’RE DRY TODAY AND SUNDAY. WE’RE ONE HOTTER TOMORROW, AND THOSE MIDDLE AND UPPER 80S FRIDAY, SATURDAY, SUNDAY AND AROUND 80 SUNDAY. MONDAY AS THE STORM CHANCES FIRE ON A DAILY BASIS, NORTH CENTRAL NEW MEXICO, LOS ALAMOS AT 8790 IN SANTA FE, TAOS 8995 IN THE ESPANOLA VALLEY. HOT STUFF. SAME TEMPERATURES TOMORROW, UPPER 80S FRIDAY, SATURDAY. SO A LITTLE LESS HEAT. AND THEN SUNDAY. MONDAY. EYEING UP A CHANCE AT SOME SCATTERED SHOWERS AND STORMS FOR THE ALBUQUERQUE METRO. GOT THE SUNPORT AT 97. YEAH, WE COULD TOUCH TRIPLE DIGITS IN THE RIVER VALLEY COMMUNITIES AND AREAS AROUND LOS LUNAS AND RECORD HIGH AT THE SUNPORT IS 100 DEGREES, JUST THREE SHY OF THAT RECORD. TOMORROW IS HUNDRED ONE. REMEMBER THURSDAY NIGHT INTO FRIDAY MORNING? WE’VE GOT THOSE GUSTY EAST WINDS IN THE FORECAST. AND THEN THEY TAKE SOME HEAT OUT OF THE THE NUMBERS FOR THE UPCOMING WEEKEND. AND IN ALBUQUERQUE WE NEVER REALLY GET IN

We are sure off to a nice start on this Wednesday with lots of sunshine and very pleasant temperatures. Enjoy the morning because later this afternoon there will be no escaping the sunshine, and temperatures will soar well into the 90s and 100s around the state! We do expect it to be a bit breezy across the northern part of the state, but wind gusts will generally only climb into the 25 mph range in the stronger spots. We do have Red Flag Warnings issued again for Southwest Colorado and a long duration on them too becoming active at 10am and lasting all the way until 10 pm this evening.Thursday will be every bit as hot as today, highs around the state will climb well back into the 90s and 100s, and it’s basically another day of full sunshine which makes it hard to try to stay cool. At least the afternoon breezes are expected to come in a little lighter than today. You have to remember the heat safety rules of staying hydrated, taking it easy during the hottest part of the day, wearing light-colored clothing and even just staying indoors where there is air-conditioning. Now it still does look like we are on track for a strong east wind event Thursday night into Friday morning with gusts 45-50 mph possible here in the Albuquerque metro! Those east winds will settle by midday Friday, and they will act as both a moisture re-charge and also temperature dropper. Now on Friday any afternoon storm chances will favor Eastern and Southern New Mexico, but by Saturday and Sunday the chance of scattered storms will try to spread around the rest of the state. Looking further ahead into early next week, scattered storm chances may continue for Monday and Tuesday but will likely favor the eastern half of the state.
