Who is Janie, The Woman That Kip Moore Keeps Singing About?

Date:

For years now, Kip Moore has been mentioning a mystery woman named Janie in some of his music.

On his Wild World album, in 2020, mentioned Janie a couple of times with the songs “Janie Blu” and “Payin’ Hard”.

Moore revisits the Janie character in the song “The Darkness” on his latest record Reason to Believe. But this time seems like a curtain call for Janie: He reveals me, “this is the final hoorah of Janie. I’m gonna kind of seal that up.”

Is Kip Moore Killing Off Janie?

When I asked Moore to elaborate on the final hoorah of Janie, I asked if he was going to kill her off. “No. This isn’t a TV show, man,” he replied.” This isn’t trash TV, it’s just a conscious decision. But it’s been a good muse throughout.”

Who is Janie?

Janie is a fictional character that often shows up as a love interest in Moore’s songs.

When chatting with Moore this time on Taste of Country Nights, about the song “The Darkness,” on his latest record, I tried once again to get him to talk about Janie, and whether or not she’s a real person from his present or past. He kept the truth pretty close to the chest.

“It’s one of those things that I purposely made a connective character throughout records,” the singer explained. When asked if this character is based on one person or a mix of people, he said “it might be, it might not be.”

“That’s something I’ll always keep to myself, man,” he stated. I asked if there was an update on Janie. “The day that I get married, that’s when you’ll know about my love life and it’ll be one post and that’ll be it,” Moore replied.

Over the years of interviewing Moore on Taste of Country Nights, I’ve tried hard to pull back some layers and find out who she is, but Moore never budges.

But hey, can’t blame a guy for trying, right?
