It was an easy one. She, she just posted on *** press secretary that the board members of the Kennedy Center voted unanimously to rename it the Trump Kennedy Center. What is your reaction to that? Well, I was honored by it. The board is *** very distinguished board, most distinguished people in the country. And I was surprised by it and I was honored by it, you know, we’ve, we’re saving the building. We saved the building. The building was in such bad shape both physically, financially, and every other way, and now it’s very solid, very strong. We have uh something going on television, I guess on the 23rd of December. I think it’s going to get very big ratings and, and the Kennedy Center is really, uh, really back strongly. It’s in very bad shape, very, very bad shape physically. And uh we’re also to get get Congress to put up *** lot of money and other people to put up *** lot of money. We had *** lot of donors come in for record setting numbers, so we, we saved the Kennedy Center and I was really, uh this was brought up by one of the very distinguished board members, and they voted on it and there’s *** lot of board members and they voted unanimously, so I was very honored by it. A federal judge ruled Friday that President Donald Trump’s name was illegally added to the Kennedy Center and blocked the administration from closing the cultural and arts venue for major renovations.U.S. District Judge Christopher Cooper in Washington, D.C., ruled that the Kennedy Center board’s March 16 vote to close the facility was “ill-informed and seemingly preordained” with no regard for its legal obligations.”The trustees might have assessed the propriety of closure in a number of prudent ways. This was not one,” he wrote.Cooper also concluded that the board “overstepped its statutory bounds” by unilaterally adding Trump’s name to the center. Congress gave the Kennedy Center its name, and only Congress can change it, he said.Cooper held hearings in late April for parallel lawsuits challenging the project. One was filed by a group of cultural and historic preservation organizations. The other was brought Rep. Joyce Beatty, an Ohio Democrat who serves as an ex officio member of the Kennedy Center’s board. He ruled in favor of Beatty’s request but rejected the other challenge.
