ROADWAYS. THIS COMES AFTER POLICE INVESTIGATED SIX FATAL CRASHES LAST WEEK ACROSS NEW MEXICO. A LOT OF FAMILIES ARE FEELING SQUEEZED BY HOUSING COSTS. NEARLY HALF OF RENTERS AND 1 IN 5 HOMEOWNERS SAY THEY’RE STRUGGLING TO KEEP UP HOUSING. NEW MEXICO SAYS A NEW STATE REPORT SHOWS FAMILIES ARE SPENDING MORE THAN 30% OF THEIR INCOME ON RENT OR MORTGAGE. THE STATE HAS INVESTED MORE THAN $150 MILLION IN AFFORDABLE HOUSING SINCE 2023.

A new state report confirms what many of our friends and neighbors already know: it’s very expensive to keep a roof over their heads. According to the report, more than half of the renters, and one in five homeowners, have a hard time meeting their monthly housing payments, which account for more than 30% of their income.In just the past three years, the state has invested $154 million in affordable housing, and apparently that’s nowhere near enough. State officials are asking the legislature for more money to build more affordable housing.
