Moisture getting drawn into the state eventually leading to much-needed rain chances and possible severe threat

SKIES JUST STARTING TO BRIGHTEN UP HERE AT 515. WELL, PERSISTENT WINDY CONDITIONS AND AREAS OF FIRE DANGER STILL ON THE MAPS. ONE MORE TIME HERE WE DO HAVE THE RAIN COMING TO THE RESCUE, AT LEAST FOR SOME OF US. TEMPERATURES FOR THE REST OF THIS WEEK IN A GREAT RANGE, BUT IT DOES STEP WARMER BY THE WEEKEND AND EARLY NEXT WEEK. WELL, A COLD FRONT SLIDE THROUGH OVERNIGHT. YOU’LL NOTICE A COOLER FEEL TO THE EARLY MORNING AIR. CLOCKWISE CIRCULATION AROUND THIS AREA OF HIGH PRESSURE. FLUSHING SOME EAST WIND BACK INTO ALBUQUERQUE THIS MORNING. BUT WE’RE GOING TO DRAW SOME GRADUALLY, SOME MIDWEST HUMIDITY BACK INTO THE STATE. HIGH TEMPERATURES TODAY, 70S AND 80S. FOR MOST OF US, WE’RE STILL ABOVE 90. CARLSBAD AND HOBBS. NOTE BY THE END OF THE DAY, AS WE TAP INTO THAT MOISTURE SOURCE, NORTHERN NEW MEXICO WITH SOME ISOLATED SHOWERS TOWARDS THE DINNER HOUR OR A LITTLE AFTER. MAINLY FOR AREAS NORTH OF SANTA FE, OUR WIND GUSTS FORECAST. WE COULD CATCH A GUST TO 25 PLUS HERE THIS MORNING OUT OF THE EAST, AND THEN LATER ON THIS AFTERNOON, IT’S SOUTHERLY WINDS THAT COULD EXCEED 30MPH HERE THROUGH A STRETCH OF CENTRAL NEW MEXICO. SO THE WINDS STILL A BIT WINDY TODAY. AND WE STILL HAVE THIS DRY AIR THAT WE’RE WORKING ON OVERCOMING. BUT IT’S GOING TO BE AROUND FOR MUCH OF THE AFTERNOON HERE IN CENTRAL NEW MEXICO, MID VALLEY, ALBUQUERQUE METRO AREAS DOWN TO SOCORRO WITH THE RED FLAG WARNINGS. ONE MORE TIME TODAY FROM NOON UNTIL SEVEN. SO THE FIRE DANGER STILL EXTREME HERE IN AND AROUND THE ALBUQUERQUE METRO, WILL CONTINUE TO DRAW THAT MOISTURE INTO THE STATE OVERNIGHT. WE’RE MAINLY ONLY TALKING ABOUT RAIN CHANCES OUT INTO EASTERN NEW MEXICO, BUT WE COULD HAVE SOME SPOTS OF SHOWERS TO TRACK AS WE COME INTO WORK TOMORROW MORNING. AND THEN TOMORROW WE’LL KEEP THESE SHOWERS AND THUNDERSHOWERS GOING IN AND OFF AND ON FASHION OUT HERE INTO EASTERN NEW MEXICO. THE REAL QUESTION IS HOW FAR BACK WEST DOES THIS MOISTURE EXTEND? BETTER SHOWER CHANCE FOR SANTA FE AND RUIDOSO, THEN PLACES LIKE ALBUQUERQUE. BUT ALBUQUERQUE WILL GET IN ON A SLIGHT CHANCE AT STORMS. GOOD CHANCES THAT RAIN OUT INTO EASTERN NEW MEXICO. AND YOU KNOW WHAT? CLOVIS. HOBBS. ROSWELL. CARLSBAD. WE ARE IN THE WELL, AT LEAST FIRST LEVEL OF SEVERE WEATHER THREAT. SO SOME DAMAGING WIND GUSTS AND LARGE HAIL CANNOT BE RULED OUT. THURSDAY AFTER MORNING SHOWERS CLEAR. WE MAY SEE A LITTLE AFTERNOON REDEVELOPMENT IN THE FAR NORTHEAST CORNER OF THE STATE, BUT WE ALREADY TREND DRIER AGAIN BY THURSDAY AND HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL STILL BE IN THE 70S AND 80S. HERE YOU GO. FOUR CORNERS FORECAST A FEW AFTERNOON CLOUDS AROUND. HIGHS MID 70S. SAME STORY TOMORROW. THE TEMPERATURE TREND IS UP A LITTLE BIT. THURSDAY. FRIDAY STILL MAY NOT HIT 80 DEGREES BUT WE WILL BY THE WEEKEND. NOW HERE’S SOUTHWEST NEW MEXICO. AND WE’VE GOT HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 80 IN SILVER CITY, UPPER 80S OFF THE MOUNTAINS. LITTLE CHANGE TO OUR TEMPERATURES GOING FORWARD FOR THE NEXT SEVERAL DAYS. WE DO HAVE A RAIN CHANCE TO EYE UP BY, WELL, MEMORIAL DAY MONDAY EARLY NEXT WEEK. HERE’S SOUTHEAST NEW MEXICO, 86 ALAMOGORDO, ROSWELL IN THE 80S STILL COULD HIT 90. ARTESIA. CARLSBAD. HOBBES. TODAY WE’VE GOT 77 IN THE FORECAST TOMORROW. WITH THAT CHANCE AT STORMS. AND REMEMBER, A SLIGHT CHANCE AT SOME SEVERE WEATHER. THEN WE TREND DRIER AGAIN THURSDAY FRIDAY INTO SATURDAY BEFORE WE COULD HAVE THOSE STORM CHANCES INCREASING AGAIN ON SUNDAY AND MONDAY HERE OUT EAST FOR NORTHEAST NEW MEXICO. WE’VE GOT HIGHS ONLY IN THE 60S. RATON VEGAS WILL STILL SEE 70. CEDAR CREST, EDGEWOOD, MORIARTY AND SANTA ROSA’S UP AT 76. WE DO HAVE HIGH STORM CHANCES TOMORROW, SO IT IS AN IMPACT WEATHER DAY DOWN TO JUST A SLIGHT CHANCE OF SHOWERS ON THURSDAY. FRIDAY LOOKS DRIER, BUT LOOK AT THOSE WEEKEND STORM CHANCES. BACK ON THE INCREASE HERE IN NORTHEAST NEW MEXICO. FOR THE NORTH CENTRAL PART OF THE STATE, IT’S EITHER 60S OR LOW AND MID 70S. SIMILAR TEMPERATURES TOMORROW AS WE HAVE A SLIGHT CHANCE AT STORMS. THEN IT TRENDS DRY AGAIN THURSDAY INTO THE WEEKEND BEFORE MAYBE LATER SUNDAY OR MONDAY. WE’VE GOT THOSE STORM CHANCES BACK FOR THE ALBUQUERQUE METRO LOWER 80S. JUST AN IDEAL TEMPERATURE RANGE. SAD PART IS WE CAN’T KEEP THE WIND DOWN. TODAY. WE WILL BE WATCHING FOR A 10% STORM CHANCE TOMORROW THAN IT DOES LOOK DRY AGAIN THURSDAY. FRIDAY, PROBABLY THROUG

Temperatures are running a little cooler this morning, especially across northern New Mexico where we have many spots down in the 40s, so plan on grabbing a jacket or sweater to throw on as you head out the door. Temperatures later this afternoon will work their way up into the 70s and 80s, very close to mid-May averages and a great range to be in. Unfortunately, we will still be dealing with some windy conditions. This morning a bout of easterly wind gusts 15-25 mph will be possible, and then later this afternoon winds go southerly and will probably jump up into the 20-30 mph range. With dry air still around today and those winds kicking up, we will have one more round of Red Flag Warnings for extreme fire danger for the Middle Rio Grande Valley and that does include the Albuquerque metro. As we gradually draw moisture into the state with these east and then south winds today, we could see come isolated showers develop in far Northern New Mexico by this evening, and then we’ll watch for more showers to develop in Eastern New Mexico overnight and into Wednesday morning. During the day Wednesday more showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop over mainly the eastern half of the state, with rain coverage possibly backing as far west as Albuquerque, but right now it looks like the metro will only catch a 10% chance of rain. Where we have the much higher rain chances in Eastern New Mexico, we will also be monitoring the potential for severe storms, especially for areas around Roswell, Carlsbad, Clovis and Hobbs. On Thursday we will shove the higher humidity back to the east, and rain chances will only be in play for the northeast corner of the state. Friday looks drier than Thursday, but then we get into the weekend and we start to draw that moisture back into the state leading to higher rain and storm chances. For Saturday and Sunday it’s mainly eastern New Mexico with the increasing storm chances, but by Memorial Day Monday we could see those higher storm chances spread around the rest of the state.
