Expanded Fire Weather Watches already issued for Saturday afternoon that include Albuquerque metro
A SANDIA CREST VIEW TO KICK OFF OUR FRIDAY MORNING. THERE’S ALL OF ALBUQUERQUE ALMOST STILL BEING LIT UP AND LOOKING GOOD. WEEKEND WARM NEXT WEEK, A LITTLE COOLER. WE’VE GOT WINDS SET TO INCREASE IN. THE STRONGEST WIND DAYS WILL BE SUNDAY AND STILL LEFT OVER ON MONDAY. FOR PARTS OF THE STATE FIRE DANGER. JUST A CONTINUAL TOPIC GOING FORWARD, DAY BY DAY. BY NEXT WEEKEND WE COULD BE IN FOR ANOTHER PATTERN CHANGE AND SOME BETTER RAIN CHANCES. DRIER AIR ABOUT TO PUSH IN FROM THE WEST, BUT WE STILL HAVE A WEATHER SYSTEM TRYING TO CLEAR. THERE’S A LITTLE RESIDUAL MOISTURE OVER EASTERN NEW MEXICO AND THE CORNERS OF EASTERN NEW MEXICO. THIS MORNING, THE SOUTHEAST. AND THEN LATER ON THIS AFTERNOON, THE NORTHEAST COULD BE THE SITE OF A COUPLE OF ISOLATED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSHOWERS. AND THERE COULD ALSO BE A LITTLE VIRGA, WHICH IS THAT EVAPORATING RAIN RIGHT ALONG THE NEW MEXICO AND TEXAS STATE LINE. FOR THE CENTRAL AND WEST. WE’RE DRY WITH LOTS OF SUNSHINE. THOSE CONCERNS ARE ONLY IN PLAY OUT EAST, AND IT’S ANOTHER ROUND OF THESE 80 AND 90 DEGREE HIGH TEMPERATURES, WITH CARLSBAD UP AT 98 DEGREES. YEAH, ALMOST KNOCKING ON THE DOOR OF 100. LOOK AT ALONG THE NEW MEXICO AND TEXAS STATE LINE. THE POTENTIAL FOR DRY LIGHTNING STRIKES THAT COULD LEAD TO A FIRE START IS IN PLAY. AND WE’VE GOT FORT SUMNER, TUCUMCARI AND CLOVIS INCLUDED ON TODAY’S RED FLAG WARNINGS FOR THE CRITICALLY DANGEROUS FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS. THESE ARE AFTERNOON WIND GUSTS OVER THE CENTRAL, WEST AND NORTH. THEY’RE NOT A PROBLEM, REALLY. BARELY INTO THE TEENS, BUT IN EASTERN AND SOUTHERN NEW MEXICO, WE STILL HAVE A LOT OF SPOTS THAT WILL BE GUSTING INTO THE 20S AND 30S. LOOK FOR WINDS TO SETTLE OVERNIGHT IN THE CLOUDS, CLEAR OUT BY SATURDAY MORNING. LOWS FOR A LOT OF US WILL HOLD IN THE 50S. IT WILL BE A PLEASANT START TO SATURDAY AND THEN SATURDAY AFTERNOON. DON’T MIND THIS COLD FRONT. THAT’S NOT GOING TO KNOCK THE TEMPERATURE DOWN AT ALL. IF ANYTHING, SATURDAY COULD BE 1 OR 2 WARMER THAN TODAY WITH A LITTLE PATCHY CLOUD COVER AROUND. WE’RE ALMOST AT 90 IN ALBUQUERQUE. CARLSBAD PROBABLY DOES HIT 100 AND SATURDAY IS SET TO BE BREEZY OR WINDY YEAR WITH MORE WIDESPREAD GUSTS AROUND THE STATE. 20S AND 30S. NOTE THE EXPANSION. WE THINK OF RED FLAG WARNINGS OR OTHER FIRE WEATHER WATCHES FOR A BIGGER CHUNK OF EASTERN NEW MEXICO, BUT SATURDAY COULD BE A DAY WHERE ALBUQUERQUE. RIGHT NOW, THE FIRE WEATHER WATCH SEES A RED FLAG WARNING. AND ON SUNDAY, WE’VE GOT A STORM SYSTEM TO OUR NORTH, GATHERING STRENGTH, KNOCKING DOWN THE TEMPERATURES JUST A LITTLE BIT FOR THE NORTHERN PART OF THE STATE. BUT WE’RE STILL RUNNING QUITE WARM SUNDAY, AND WE GENERALLY DO EXPECT A LOT OF SUNSHINE. BUT LOOK AT WHAT THAT STORM SYSTEM IS GOING TO DO TO OUR SUNDAY AFTERNOON WIND GUSTS. JUST ABOUT EVERYBODY GUSTS WELL INTO THE 30S. AND THE STRONGEST SPOTS WILL BE 40 PLUS. HERE’S A LOOK AT THE FORECAST. NORTHWEST NEW MEXICO WE’RE IN THE MIDDLE 80S TODAY IN FARMINGTON AGAIN TOMORROW DOWN CLOSER TO 80 ON SUNDAY. MONDAY IS A COOL DAY, MAYBE WITH A SLIGHT CHANCE OF A SHOWER. AND THEN IT’S MORE COMFORTABLE 70S NEXT WEEK. HERE’S SOUTHWEST NEW MEXICO 81, SILVER CITY, ABOUT 90 OFF THE MOUNTAINS. SIMILAR TEMPERATURES TOMORROW. THE TEMPERATURE TREND IS DOWN A LITTLE BIT INTO SUNDAY AND MONDAY BEFORE WE BOUNCE BACK UP TO AROUND 80 BY THE MIDDLE OF NEXT WEEK. HERE’S SOUTHEAST NEW MEXICO 88 ALAMOGORDO. STILL PRETTY TOASTY WARM. ROSWELL, CARLSBAD. SLIGHT CHANCE OF SOME SHOWERS THIS MORNING HERE. CARLSBAD AND HOBBS. AND THEN THIS AFTERNOON WE MAKE A RUN TOWARDS 100 ROSWELL UP AT 98 TOMORROW. THE TEMPERATURE TREND IS DOWN INTO EARLY NEXT WEEK. MAYBE BY THE END OF NEXT WEEK WE’LL HAVE SOME LITTLE BETTER CHANCES OF THUNDERSHOWERS TO TALK ABOUT. FOR NORTHEAST NEW MEXICO, WE’RE IN THE LOW TO MID 80S TODAY OR A COUPLE WARMER TOMORROW. REMEMBER THIS AFTERNOON THERE’S A SLIGHT CHANCE OF A STORM, MAINLY TO THE NORTH AND EAST OF RATON AND VEGAS. SUNDAY. MONDAY WILL BE IMPACT. WIND DAYS WILL BE DAYS WITH GUSTS 45 PLUS. AND WE DO HAVE THOSE HIGH TEMPERATURES SETTLING TO AROUND 70 EVERY DAY NEXT WEEK WITH MAYBE SOME BETTER RAIN CHANCES TOWARDS NEXT WEEKEND. HERE’S NORTH CENTRAL NEW MEXICO. WELL BACK INTO THE 70S AND 80S THIS AFTERNOON. WE’RE EVEN ONE MORE SATURDAY. THEN THE TEMPERATURE DOWN A LITTLE BIT SUNDAY MORE SO MONDAY. TUESDAY DOWN TO AROUND 70 FOR THIS BIT OF A BOUNCE BACK LATER NEXT WEEK FOR THE ALBUQUERQUE METRO IS THE TIME OF YEAR WHERE THE AVERAGE HIGHS IN THE UPPER 70S. HERE WE ARE IN THE UPPER 80S LOWER 90S FOR THE RIVER VALLEY COMMUNITIES. WHEN DO WE SEE THAT SPRINGTIME COMFORTABLE RAIN RETURN? NEXT WEEK. BREEZY. SATURDAY. WINDY. SUNDAY. WINDY AGAIN. MONDAY WITH THAT COOLDOWN PLAYING OUT NEXT WEEK, WE DO SETTLE INTO A PRETTY PLEASANT TEMPERATURE RANGE. HIGHS AROUND 8
Red Flag Warnings for parts of eastern New Mexico this afternoon paired with dry lightning threat
Expanded Fire Weather Watches already issued for Saturday afternoon that include Albuquerque metro
We are off to a quiet and mild start on this Friday morning with temperatures mainly in the 50s and 60s, just cool enough to maybe want a jacket or hoodie sweatshirt for the first few hours of the day. Later this afternoon we will see temperatures jump back up into the 80s and even lower 90s in the hottest spots, and while a good chunk of the state enjoys sunshine and fairly light breezes, that’s Albuquerque and points west and north, the eastern and southern part of the state will still probably catch wind gusts in the 20-30 mph range. That wind paired with the threat of dry lightning out east has the fire danger quite high this afternoon, and we even have Red Flag Warnings for Fort Sumner, Tucumcari and Clovis from noon to 8pm today.Saturday will be another warm and dry day, and with more of the state catching 20-30 mph wind gusts during the afternoon, Fire Weather Watches have already been issued for a larger area in eastern New Mexico and also for the Albuquerque metro. As a storm system to our north gathers strength over the weekend that will act to keep increasing the wind, and that will lead to an even gustier Sunday around all of the state with afternoon wind gusts 30-45 mph and the possibility of most of the state dealing with fire weather warnings being issued. As a cold front swings through Sunday into Monday winds will likely stay fairly strong on Monday, especially in northeast New Mexico, but Monday will also be noticeably cooler with highs getting knocked down into the 70s and lower 80s, and we may even stay below 70 degrees in the cooler spots across the north. Skies will tend to settle down Tuesday and Wednesday around the state with pleasant temperatures, then we could be for a little better chance of thundershowers Thursday followed by the possibility of higher chances of rain on Friday and into next weekend.
