Breezy & windy conditions tomorrow have Fire Weather Watches issued for parts of the state

RIGHT NOW, LET’S SEND IT OVER TO ERIC GREEN WITH A CHECK OF THE FORECAST. GOOD MORNING. MORNING, ROYALE. A HOT ONE YESTERDAY ABOVE 90, AND WE COULD BE BACK ABOVE 90 THIS AFTERNOON. BUT HERE’S THE CHANGE IN THE FORECAST. WE’LL BE ON VIRGO WATCH. THERE COULD BE SOME WIND GUSTS THAT GET BOMBED OUT ON US. AND MAYBE EVEN A COUPLE SPOTS OF WEDDING RAINS. TEMPERATURES AFTER TODAY DO START TO TREND DOWN. A BIGGER STEP DOWN NEXT WEEK. RIGHT NOW, SUNDAY IS PROBABLY GOING TO END UP BEING THE WINDIEST DAY OF THE WEEK AHEAD. A LITTLE MOISTURE IS CREEPING IN UNDERNEATH THE HEAT DOME. THAT’S GOING TO KEEP THE TEMPERATURE SWITCHED ON. WE’RE BACK IN THE 80S AND 90 TODAY, NEAR 100 DEGREES IN CARLSBAD, ROSWELL, HOBBS, CENTRAL, WESTERN AND NORTHERN NEW MEXICO, WHERE WE’VE GOT THE SLIGHT CHANCE OF ISOLATED GUSTY THUNDERSHOWERS. ALBUQUERQUE IS INCLUDED ON THE DRY THUNDERSTORM, DRY LIGHTNING STRIKE OUTLOOK AREA, SO SANTA FE AND TAOS AND POINTS WEST TOWARDS FARMINGTON, AND ALSO AREAS ALL THE WAY DOWN TO SILVER CITY THAT COULD LEAD TO A WILDFIRE START LATER ON TODAY. THE AFTERNOON EVENING HOURS JUST OVERALL GETTING BREEZIER, A LOT OF US GUSTING INTO THE TEENS AND 20S AND NEAR THE RAIN SHAFTS THAT MAY OR MAY NOT COMPLETELY EVAPORATE. WIND GUSTS WILL LIKELY BE MUCH STRONGER THAN THAT. WE’LL WATCH ANY ISOLATED SHOWERS AND THE CLOUD COVER KIND OF THIN OUT BY MORNING, EXCEPT OUT OF EASTERN NEW MEXICO. THOSE SHOULD HOLD IN THE 50S FOR MOST OF US AGAIN TONIGHT. NOW WE LOOK AHEAD TOWARDS THURSDAY. AND WHILE THE CENTRAL, WESTERN AND NORTHERN PART OF THE STATE GENERALLY DRIES OUT, AREAS ALONG THE NEW MEXICO TEXAS STATE LINE AND HERE TO SOUTHEAST NEW MEXICO, WHERE WE’RE STILL UP NEAR 100 TOMORROW, COULD CATCH THE ISOLATED GUSTY THUNDERSHOWERS. WHEREAS FOR THE REST OF US, THAT CHANCE IS NO LONGER IN PLAY. THE DRY LIGHTNING STRIKE OUTLOOK AREA IS JUST EAST OF TUCUMCARI THAT COULD GET EXTENDED BACK WEST INTO NEW MEXICO TOMORROW. SO WE DO HAVE THAT CONCERN. YOU CAN SEE TOMORROW’S WINDS STRONGER THAN TODAY, ESPECIALLY OUT INTO EASTERN NEW MEXICO, WHERE A LOT OF SPOTS WILL BE GUSTING UP NEAR 30. AND YOU CAN SEE THE I-40 CORRIDOR, THE I-25 CORRIDOR IN THE EAST CENTRAL, NORTHEAST PART OF THE STATE. ALSO AREAS UP TOWARDS CLAYTON FIRE WEATHER WATCHES HAVE ALREADY BEEN ISSUED. IT COULD BE A RED FLAG WARNING DAY TOMORROW. NORTHWEST NEW MEXICO FOUR CORNERS AREA. THIS COMPUTER MODEL SHOWING A LOT OF RAIN. THERE COULD BE QUITE A FEW SPOTS OF VIRGA OUT THERE, BUT AS FAR AS WEDDING DOWNPOURS ARE CONCERNED, THEY WILL BE ISOLATED. HIGHS UPPER 80S IN FARMINGTON WILL SWITCH DOWN INTO THE LOWER 80S. THURSDAY. FRIDAY, SATURDAY. JUMP UP A LITTLE BIT. LOOK AT THAT. DROP INTO THE 70S MONDAY TUESDAY OF NEXT WEEK. HERE’S SOUTHWEST NEW MEXICO 88 SILVER CITY. WE’RE STILL WAY INTO THE 90S OFF THE MOUNTAINS. THERE IS THAT SLIGHT CHANCE OF AN ISOLATED GUSTY THUNDER SHOWER. THAT’S NOT IN PLAY THOUGH, FOR THURSDAY, FRIDAY, OR SATURDAY. IT’S LOWER 80S INTO SATURDAY AND THEN A DROP TO AROUND 80 BY EARLY NEXT WEEK. ALAMOGORDO AT 94. WE’RE STILL UP NEAR 100 FROM ROSWELL TO CARLSBAD IN THE SOUTHEAST CORNER OF THE STATE. WE’RE NOT NECESSARILY ON VIRGO WATCH TODAY, BUT WE WILL BE TOMORROW. AND THEN FRIDAY. SATURDAY. WE’RE STILL UP NEAR 100 WITH THE DRY SKIES. NORTHEAST NEW MEXICO NUMBERS STILL WELL INTO THE 80S TODAY, KIND OF RIGHT ON THE EDGE WHERE WE HAVE THIS ISOLATED SHOWER OR VIRGA CHANCE OR THREAT. AFTER TODAY’S MIDDLE 80S, IT’S LOWER 80S GOING FORWARD. FRIDAY COULD BE ANOTHER DAY, MAYBE WITH A SLIGHT CHANCE AT A STORM. LOOK AT THE 70S MONDAY, TUESDAY OF NEXT WEEK, AND TUESDAY COULD END UP BEING THE DAY WITH THE HIGHEST RAIN CHANCE. NORTH CENTRAL NEW MEXICO STILL BACK IN THE 80S TO AROUND 90 DEGREES THERE IN THE ESPANOLA VALLEY. IT’S GOING TO BE ANOTHER WARM ONE. WATCH FOR A COUPLE OF SPOTS OF THUNDERSHOWERS, OR MAYBE SOME GUSTY WINDS NEAR THE RAIN SHAFTS. THAT’S NO LONGER A CONCERN. TOMORROW, HERE IN NORTH CENTRAL NEW MEXICO, RIGHT AROUND 80 FOR FRIDAY AND SATURDAY, THE ALBUQUERQUE METRO BACK IN THE LOW AND MID 90S WITH AN ASSOCIATED 10% STORM CHANCE THAT’S NOT IN PLAY. TOMORROW WE’RE IN THE UPPER 80S. THURSDAY. FRIDAY. SATURDAY. SUNDAY. THE STR

It is another pretty mild morning around the state with temperatures in the 50s and 60s, we’ll hardly need jackets or a hoodie on out the door this morning, and these temperatures will make it easy to jump right back up into the 80s and 90s again this afternoon. We have a little moisture feeding into the state today and that will lead to a slight chance of a gusty thundershower this afternoon and evening, this chance is mainly in play for the western, northern and central part of the state – not so much for the southeast. As is typically the case during our springtime season when the air is pretty dry, some of the thundershowers that try to develop will have all of the rain evaporate – this is called virga – and that can lead to some very strong and erratic wind gusts. There will also be the potential for lightning to strike without any accompanying rain and this can lead to wildfire starts, so we have those dual concerns on a day where the rain chance is only about 10% for any given location. While these threats are in play for most of the state today, by tomorrow we will see these concerns and the associated 10% rain chances only over the southeast corner of the state.Looking ahead, skies will briefly settle on Friday making for a very nice end to the work week, then Saturday gets breezier and Sunday gets windy with Sunday looking like the windiest day of the week ahead. Those stronger winds Sunday are expected to be associated with a cold front that will noticeably drop temperatures for Monday and Tuesday of next week. Next week still looks to be on track to bring better chances of rain, but that may not happen until late next week or into next weekend, we will continue to watch it.
