New logo revealed for ‘President Donald J. Trump Airport’
CHRISTIANE CORDERO, ABC NEWS, WASHINGTON. RIGHT NOW, A MAJOR STEP IN RENAMING PALM BEACH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT AFTER PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP, PALM BEACH COUNTY COMMISSIONER, SET TO MAKE THEIR FIRST PUBLIC VOTE ON THE RENAMING. JOLIE RODRIGUEZ IS IN THE COMMISSION MEETING RIGHT NOW. SHE EXPLAINS THE DECISION WE’RE EXPECTING IN THE COMING HOURS. AS THE COMMISSIONERS RETURN FROM THEIR LUNCH BREAK, THEY ARE EXPECTED TO BRING UP THE LICENSING AGREEMENT NEEDED TO RENAME PBIA TO PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT. NOW, IF THIS AGREEMENT IS APPROVED, IT WOULD BE WITH THE TRUMP PRIVATE COMPANY, THE ONE THAT ALSO FILED A TRADEMARK FOR THE PRESIDENT’S NAME. NOW, THE AGREEMENT SIGNED BY TRUMP AND WAITING FOR COMMISSIONERS TO SIGN, SHOWS A GLIMPSE OF WHAT THE NEW AIRPORT BRANDING WOULD LOOK LIKE. IF APPROVED, THE COUNTY WOULD BE ALLOWED TO USE THE PRESIDENT’S NAME FOR REBRANDING, SIGNAGE, MERCHANDISE AND MUCH MORE. THIS ALSO GIVES A WINDOW FOR THIRD PARTY APPROVED RETAILERS TO SELL PRODUCTS WITH THE NAME. AS WE REPORTED, THE TRUMP ORGANIZATION HAS FILED TO TRADEMARK THE NAME SAYING TRUMP NOR HIS FAMILY WOULD RECEIVE ANY ROYALTY, LICENSING FEE OR FINANCIAL CONSIDERATION FROM THIS NAME CHANGE. INSTEAD, THE TRADEMARK WOULD PROTECT THE NAME FOR THE COUNTY AND STATE FROM ANY LAWSUITS. THE AGENDA STATES. THIS AGREEMENT WOULD NOT COST THE COUNTY, BUT THAT BEING SAID, THERE IS A $5.5 MILLION COST TO MAKE THESE CHANGES. ACCORDING TO THE COUNTY’S DEPARTMENT OF AIRPORTS, GRANT FUNDING COULD BE PROVIDED BY THE STATE. NOW, IT IS LIKELY THAT THIS AGREEMENT MOVES FORWARD, AS WE HAVE SEEN GOVERNOR RON DESANTIS ALSO SIGN OFF ON THIS BILL, MAKING IT A LAW REALLY PUSHING FOR THIS CHANGE TO RENAME PBIA. BUT OF COURSE, THAT DOES STILL REQUIRE THE FINAL APPROVAL OF THE FAA. IF THAT DOES GO FORWARD, WE WILL SEE CHANGES GO INTO EFFECT AS EARL
Officials in Florida are expected to bring a licensing agreement back to the table to rename the Palm Beach International Airport the “President Donald J. Trump International Airport.” The agreement, signed by The Trump Organization and awaiting commissioner approval, provides a glimpse of the proposed airport branding. If approved, the county would be allowed to use the president’s name for rebranding, signage, merchandise and more. It also permits third-party “approved” retailers to sell products featuring the name. The Trump Organization filed to trademark the name, stating that neither President Donald Trump nor his family would receive royalties, licensing fees or financial compensation from the name change. Instead, the trademark would protect the name for the county and state from lawsuits. The agenda specifies that the agreement would not cost the county directly. However, the county’s Department of Airports estimates a $5.5 million expense to implement the changes, with potential grant funding available from the state. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has already signed a bill into law supporting the name change. If approved by the Federal Aviation Administration, the new name would take effect July 1.
