Uncle Kracker has been best friends with Kid Rock for several decades. He was the DJ for Kid Rock’s backing group, Twisted Brown Trucker, which was formed back in 1994.
But when Kid Rock and the rest of the band found out that Kracker was putting out solo music that leaned more pop, back in 1999, they really dug into him and made fun of him for it.
“Like “Follow Me,” I remember everyone in my immediate circle making fun of me because it was so poppy sounding, compared to what we had been doing with the Kid Rock stuff,” Kracker recalls to Taste of Country Nights.
“Then ‘Follow Me’ shows up in the middle of like all this Kid Rock fun stuff — ‘Follow Me’ was sittin’ there like this pop song,” he relates.
Kracker says that he remembers when the song hit the radio, Kid Rock and the other band mates came up and confronted him and said “What’d you do that for?” To which he replied to them saying “I don’t know. It just felt good at the time.”
The success of Uncle Kracker’s “Follow Me” in pop music did not mess with the success Kid Rock and the Twisted Brown Trucker band were having at that time.

Although Kracker ultimately left the band to pursue his budding solo career, he remained, and still remains best of friends with Kid Rock and the members of the Twisted Brown Trucker band.
In November of 2001 the band, sans Kracker, performed on Kid Rock’s fifth studio album, Cocky. That album became a hit, and crossed over into the pop world with the help of the single “Picture” featuring Sheryl Crow.

The Twisted Brown Trucker band still performs with Kid rock to this day. Whenever you see him on a bill for a concert, they will always be his backing support band, like they have been since 1994.

Kid Rock has a rough-and-tumble image, but he didn’t exactly grow up in humble circumstances. His childhood home was a 5,660-square-foot luxury home in Michigan, situated on 5.5 acres that includes 5 bedrooms, 7 bathrooms, 5-car garage, along with a partially finished walkout and guest house. There’s also a 3 stall horse barn, regulation tennis court and inground pool. The 22-room house was renovated in 2004, and it also has a hot tub and a wet bar.
