Zac Brown Shares Secrets Behind His Band’s Sound [EXCLUSIVE]

The Zac Brown Band consists of nine band members, and each one of them has an important role in making the band’s sound so unique.

I sat down with Zac Brown on Taste of Country Nights to try to get in between the sheets of music to see what it is exactly that they do to make their songs sound so unique, and the answer was not what I was expecting…at all.

What Makes Zac Brown Band’s Sound So Unique?

Brown tells me, “Whether it’s somebody’s phone will make a noise and we’ll make a sample out of that or beating on things. My percussionist, Daniel de los Reyes, is one of the best percussionists in the world.”

Brown continued to spill the details behind their exclusive sound.

“When you see the bag of things he has from like 40 goat hooves that are on a shaker to ya know, his bag of tricks and things that we use is pretty wild.”

What Zac Brown Songs Feature the Weirdest Instruments?

Brown tells me that they used some serving spoons on the band’s hit record, “Same Boat.”

“He actually came up from the kitchen, and he had these two big giant commercial serving spoons and he was playing these giant spoons and that single sound on ‘Same Boat,’ when it wasn’t turned up loud enough the song didn’t groove as hard.

“So when you hear those two things clanking together, that’s two serving spoons like a lunch lady would use.”

Just goes to show you that if you overthink the music making process, you could be overlooking the simplest things or items that can be used to make songs catch on even more, and the Zac Brown Band is proof of that.
