Police detectives have charged a man after learning a young girl shot herself with a handgun in northwest Albuquerque.The child, described as an 8-year-old girl, was found to discharge the weapon and it hit both of her legs. She was driven to a hospital and recovering from the wound believed to be non-life-threatening. Isaiah Chavez, 26, was later detained by officers and interviewed by the Albuquerque Police Department. He told police he did not live at the home but was staying there on the couch Sunday night, April 26.Detectives were told by Chavez he emptied his pockets and placed items on the counter, including a handgun.
