They say the “Final Court-Ordered Mandatory Collection Notice” via text is another scam, and it’s another attempt to take your money. “Do not scan or click anything that may compromise your device,” says court executive officer Lissa Quintana. “The first indication that this is the scam is that New Mexico does not have toll roads. There are also misspellings and incomplete sentences throughout the notice,” she says. Quintana also says the messages may appear official and may use legitimate court-related language, but the public should confirm with the court before “acting.”The courts want to remind the public that they will not contact individuals by text message or phone to notify them of charges or to request payment for fines. Official court notifications are sent through the mail.
