‘The Road’ Winner Adam Sanders Reveals How He Spent Prize Money

Date:

Adam Sanders says he never treats himself with money from his career but he made a big exception with prize money from The Road.

Actually, one could argue that this splurge was also an investment in his future. Talking to Taste of Country Nights‘ Evan Paul, the “His To Mine” singer spilled details of how he spent the $250,000 prize money.

  • Adam Sanders won The Road on CBS last fall.
  • In addition to $250K, he gets to play the Mane Stage at Stagecoach this month.
  • Look for him to appear on this Sunday’s episode of Marshals, also on CBS.

The direct deposit arrived last December. “I’m sitting there scrolling one day and I looked in my account and it had hit and I’m like, ‘Oh buddy! It’s gonna be a good Christmas!'” he recalls.

How Adam Sanders Spent His Prize Money from The Road

“I bought an engagement ring with it,” Sanders tells ToC in an interview exclusive.

The 37-year-old got engaged to longtime girlfriend Nancy Villaseñor in January he says, but waited a few weeks to share with fans. We didn’t ask how much he spent on the ring but definitely asked how he figured out how much to spend.

“I kind of set a budget in my head … and I talked to a lot of buddies, like ‘Hey, what did you spend?'” he shares.

“I was able to get a picture from her sister that she had sent to her years ago to help me figure out what the ring looked like and all of that and was able to go get it.”

Additionally, Sanders says he spent significant money on a house remodel project. He’s giving the facade a total facelift. It’s all so different from how he’d spend his paydays before.

“Whether I had a No. 1 and songwriting money, I would fund an album project for myself or I’d go shoot content,” he says. “This was the first time where I had a little bit of money and I said, ‘You know what, I want to enjoy a little bit of this money.’ Because this may never happen again.”

Will There Be Season 2 of The Road?

Officially, Season 2 of The Road has not yet been announced. Sanders says he has nothing to add to that.

“I haven’t really heard if there is or there isn’t,” he shares. “Obviously the show was such a cool concept, I would love to see it come back.”

Speculating, Sanders says he thinks producers learned a lot in filming because the concept was so new. Season 2 has the potential to get multitudes better that doesn’t mean they’ll do it again.

Ratings for the show were mediocre, averaging between 2.5M and 3M viewers each week. That appears to be a bit better than shows like Amazing Race but not quite as good as Survivor.

Worth noting is that Season 1 of The Road filmed last March and April, and premiered in October.
