Just days after her performance of “How Great Thou Art” on American Idol‘s faith-focused episode, Carrie Underwood performed the worship standard once again.
This time, though, the setting was very different. It was at a local Nashville-area church to celebrate Easter Sunday.
Several church-goers shared clips to social media of Underwood’s sweeping performance, backed by a choir and every bit as moving and faith-filled as the rendition fans saw on TV.

Churchgoers who shared the video seemed to have been totally surprised by Underwood’s appearance.
“Carrie Underwood just did this on ‘American Idol’ this past week & I said to Dan as she was singing, ‘Man, to be in the room for THAT!’ and then boom, she does it at the Easter program we just attended at a nearby church,” one person wrote. “Wowzers. What a voice.”
Another described the experience as “the kind that gives you chills and makes you pause for a second.”
That churchgoer also posted video of Underwood performing one more worship song: “Name Above All Names,” which Christian artist Charity Gayle released in 2024.
It’s not Underwood’s first time popping up to sing at church. On several occasions in recent years, the singer has sung worship music on the stage of her local church, Rolling Hills Community Church in Franklin, Tenn.
