Multiple people, including a police officer, were brought to hospitals Friday after a gun discharged during a scuffle involving a knife-wielding man and officers at a Boston transit station, authorities said. The incident started with a report of a man with a butcher knife at the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority Forest Hills station, threatening people and trying to cut the tires of a bus at about 11:30 a.m., MBTA Transit Police Superintendent Richard Sullivan said. When officers at the station attempted to take the man into custody, one of the officers’ guns discharged.”A struggle ensued, and instantly, the suspect grabbed for the officer’s weapon. They continued to struggle, and ultimately the officers gained control of him during that initial struggle,” Sullivan said. “Somehow there was a discharge of the officer’s weapon.”Sullivan said no one was hit by the bullet, but an officer sustained a knee injury and was taken to a hospital. A second officer was also taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. “How that weapon discharged will be part of the investigation,” Sullivan said.
