Date:

Actor and director Timothy Busfield is out of jail and awaiting trial after being indicted on child sex abuse charges in New Mexico, and now multiple women are coming forward with accusations of abuse while working with him. At least five women have accused Busfield of abusing or unwantedly touching them, with some allegations dating back to the early 1990s. KOAT obtained five body camera videos of an Albuquerque detective talking on the phone with the five women. The videos were shared with KOAT through an open records request through the New Mexico 2nd Judicial District Attorney’s Office. In 1991, a woman said she was 26-years-old and working on a movie set with Busfield. “The assistant director told me he wanted to run lines with me, which was a normal thing to do back in the day. You would go to someplace, trailer run lines. That’s for a scene. Just, you know, work on the scene. And the second I got in the trailer, he literally threw me up against the wall. He had an erection, and he shoved his tongue in my mouth,” she said.In the interview, she tells the detective, she told her husband, but never reported it until now.”Three years later, I was in a nail salon or something. I saw the People Magazine where these two young girls were accusing him of raping them. And subsequently, he paid them off. I just, I was really angry at myself for not taking it further,” she said.Another woman said in 1993, she was a minor and an extra on a movie set when she had a run-in with Busfield. “I was 17 at the time, my friend was 18,” she said. “It was just really strange saying things and way too interested in talking to a 17-year-old. At some point, I did try to leave, and he pinned me against the refrigerator in the trailer, with his foot in my crotch.”She told the detective that Busfield also said some inappropriate things, and she eventually went to report it to law enforcement.”The most that will happen is he will get a slap on the wrist. They told me it wasn’t really worth their time for perusing,” she said.A third woman said she encountered Busfield while getting books for her children. She claimed he followed her to her car and began graphically talking to her. “It was very bizarre. It was very disturbing. It was extremely aggressive. And it was totally uninvited on my part,” she said. “I didn’t understand why he just suddenly went there, and I tried to just say, okay, I’ll talk to you later. I have to go. It was relentless. And I rolled up my window.”She claims Busfield then followed her to another business, trying to finish the conversation.According to a fourth woman, she worked as an assistant for Busfield and his wife from 2017 to 2019. She claims during those two years, Busfield made inappropriate comments, was manipulative, and she didn’t feel safe being alone with him. “He kind of touched me on my thigh in the car,” she said. “I was 22 at the time…He was my boss… I felt very uncomfortable, clearly, in that position.” Another woman said when she was 16, Busfield assaulted her while she was an intern. “He then, like, grabbed me between the legs on the ladder and pulled me down from the ladder and turned me around and, like, stuck his tongue down my throat and, like, touched me all over, like aggressively,” she said. She told the detective, Busfield summoned her for an audition for a show through her agent.”It was after that, that encounter …that I started using drugs, like really bad because that just brought up, like, everything for me,” she said. Busfield was arrested on suspicion of child sex abuse charges in January. He was then indicted by a grand jury on counts of criminal sexual contact of a child in February. His trial is set for May 2027.Larry Stein, Busfield’s attorney, sent KOAT the following statement:“I will not waste my time nor the public’s commenting on thirty year old unproven allegations with an adult woman, which are totally irrelevant to the current case. Lazy journalists look for clickbait, instead of informing the public about the overwhelming evidence that proves Tim’s innocence.”
