And the prize for ‘most out of the box proposal goes to’ – Metallica‘s James Hetfield as he proposed to his English girlfriend, Adriana Gillet underwater amidst a flurry of whale sharks. Posting a photo to both the Metallica Instagram and Gillet‘s personal account to mark the announcement, it showcases Hetfield holding up a piece of paper that asks, “Adriana Gillett, will you marry me?” with Gillet holding her thumbs up.
Metallica‘s caption was simple – “She said yes!” – but Gillet had a few words of her own in her post: “The best birthday trip surprise. Swimming with whale sharks on Friday the 13th with the most unique, special, and romantic proposal a Pisces could ever imagine. In a sea full of fish, we caught each other. Thank you, God, for putting us together.”
Gillet started her career in journalism as a correspondent for the UK’s The Times where she covered socio-political issues and war zones such as the Syrian Civil War, Arab Spring, and more. Her bravery, skill and talent earned her the British Journalism Award for her work.
This will be Hetfield‘s second marriage, after he filed for divorce in 2022 from his ex-wife of 25 years, Francesca Tomasi. The divorce application cited irreconcilable differences as the cause despite Hetfield crediting Tomasi on several occasions for his improved anger management skills and maturity. Together, they have three children.
