Firefighters help nearly 30-year-old horse named Cinnabun get back to her stall

Date:

TALKING. I’M MARIBEL GONZALEZ, REPORTING AND SOME HAPPY NEWS OUT OF LANCASTER COUNTY TONIGHT. A NEARLY 30 YEAR OLD HORSE NAMED CINNABON IS NOW SAFELY BACK IN HER STALL AFTER A FIRE DEPARTMENT CAME TO THE RESCUE. YEAH, THE QUARRYVILLE FIRE COMPANY WAS CALLED TO A FARM ON WOODSIDE DRIVE IN COLERAIN TOWNSHIP LAST NIGHT TO HELP LIFT A HORSE WHO HAD BEEN DOWN FOR MORE THAN FIVE HOURS. SO HAVING A HORSE THAT’S UNABLE TO RISE CAN LEAD TO CRITICAL HEALTH EMERGENCIES. SO USING A LIFT, A TRAP AND A FRONT END LOADER, THEY WERE ABLE TO CAREFULLY RAISE CINNABON AND HELP HER REGAIN HER FOOTING. SOME GREAT PICTURES HERE. AND AFTER A FEW MINUTES AND A SLEEVE OF SALTINE CRACKERS, CINNABON WALKED BACK TO HER STALL AND SETTLED IN FOR THE NIGHT. THE QUARRYVILLE FIRE COMPANY SAYS BEING A RURAL VOLUNTEER COMPANY AND COMMUNITY FUNDED FIRE COMPANY, THEY NEVER KNOW WHAT THEY’RE IN FOR. BUT WITH SOME COMMON SENSE AND A FEW PIECES OF GOOD EQUIPMENT, THEY CAN ALMOST MAKE ANYTHING HAPPEN. AND THEY DID.

A nearly 30-year-old horse named Cinnabun was safely back in her stall Thursday night after a Pennsylvania fire department came to the rescue. The Quarryville Fire Company responded to a farm on Woodside Drive in Colerain Township at 8:25 p.m. to help lift the horse after she had been down for more than five hours. “Being a rural, volunteer, community funded fire company, we never really know what we may be involved in from day to day, and we get a lot of incidents where you cannot really prepare or train for, but with some common sense and a few pieces of equipment, we can make almost anything happen,” the Quarryville Fire Company said. Using a lifting strap carried on the rescue unit and a front-end loader, responders were able to carefully raise Cinnabun and help her regain her footing. “After a few minutes and a sleeve of saltine crackers,” Cinnabun was walked back to her stall, where she was settled in for the night, the department said. The Quarryville Fire Company emphasized the importance of helping the community and stepping in “when there is just no one else to call.” Below: Photos from the horse rescue credited to QFD.
