Warm and dry today with Red Flag Warnings for extreme fire danger in Eastern New Mexico
Rain chances look to move in on Tuesday, favoring the southern half of the state
Once we wait out this chilly morning, temperatures will quickly climb today and we have afternoon highs back into the 60s and 70s this afternoon, numbers about 10 degrees above average for early March. We do expect breezy/windy conditions to develop, the strongest of which will be seen out over eastern New Mexico, and that will result in extremely dangerous fire weather conditions for all of the east-central and northeast part of the state this afternoon.Later this evening and overnight we will watch for a storm system to move into southwest and southern New Mexico. This will bring a chance of some much-needed rain showers to areas along and south of I-40 overnight and into Tuesday morning. This storm system will take most of Tuesday to clear, so rain chances will be in play through the day but still continue to favor the southern half of the state more so than the northern half of the state.Skies dry out again for us on Wednesday and probably stay that way right on through the weekend. While temperatures will continue to hang out in that 10 degree above-average range into the middle of the week, a big surge is expected for Friday and the weekend. This will have us challenging records on Friday and then likely breaking records for both weekend afternoons with 80-degree highs possible for Albuquerque!
