After weeks of bracket competition, the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo’s (SASSR) top athletes are set to compete for the coveted titles on Championship Saturday.
Ahead of the Saturday, Feb. 28, evening performance, The Cowboy Channel highlights several key storylines to watch as the final 11 competitors in each event battle for the 2026 titles. All action will air live across The Cowboy Channel’s broadcast and digital platforms.
Following a dramatic Wildcard Round, the championship field is complete. Unique to San Antonio’s format, earnings are cumulative across the preliminary brackets, semifinals and wildcard round, with total money won determining the champions.
With more than $1.5 million paid out, the Texas Swing stop has the potential to significantly impact the early PRCA world standings as athletes turn their attention toward the spring run and RODEOHOUSTON.
In bareback riding, reigning world champion Rocker Steiner looks to climb higher in the standings with a major payday along the River Walk. He’ll face stiff competition from current world standings leader Wacey Schalla.
The steer wrestling finals feature a veteran-heavy field, including past San Antonio champion Dakota Eldridge, who won the title in 2018. He is joined by experienced competitors Stetson Jorgensen and Rowdy Parrott, all aiming to stand out among the 11-man field.
Team ropers James Arviso and Rance Doyal have surged early in 2026 and are chasing their first National Finals Rodeo qualifications. After a finals appearance at the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo, the duo sits No. 5 in the world standings in their respective heading and heeling races. They’ll contend with reigning world champions Kaleb Driggers and Junior Nogueira in a highly competitive field.
Saddle bronc riding will feature 10-time world champion Stetson Wright, who is pursuing another all-around world title in 2026. He will compete alongside his brothers in San Antonio’s final round, reigning world champion Statler Wright and current standings leader Rusty Wright. Canadian veteran Zeke Thurston also advanced to the finals, setting up a marquee showdown.
In tie-down roping, NFR-qualifying brothers Ty Harris and Joel Harris headline the field. Rising talent Cole Clemons, who narrowly missed a second NFR qualification in 2025, looks to capitalize on the more than $16,000 available in the final round alone, with the SASSR carrying significant weight in both the PRCA world standings and the CINCH Playoff Series race.
Barrel racing features decorated veterans Brittany Pozzi Tonozzi and Jordan Driver, each paired with standout equine athletes as they compete against a balanced mix of seasoned competitors and rising stars.
In breakaway roping, Joey Williams advanced through a pressure-packed Wildcard Round and will face fellow NFBR qualifiers Jordi Edens and Kinlie Brennise.
Closing out the 2026 San Antonio rodeo is the ever-intense bull riding. Trey Benton III looks to continue his comeback campaign against a field that includes rising standout Jacek Frost, known as the “Colorado Kid,” who has built early-season momentum.
