Make-A-Wish gets a welcome gift from one-day clothing sale

Behind the scenes of granting wishes is a never-ending need for money. That’s because the cost of wishes just keeps going up.Make-A-Wish New Mexico needs all the help it can get, so even 50% of what is raised by a one-day sale at The Closet clothing store makes a difference, said Sima Greenfield, MAWNM development coordinator.”A lot of people don’t know that even though there’s Make-A-Wish America, there’s also Make-A-Wish New Mexico, so we have to raise the funds for our state, and we need community partners like The Closet,” Greenfield said. “We’re very grateful for all the people that have come together to grant wishes in New Mexico.”MAWNM and The Closet first got together at a bingo fundraiser for their upcoming Wine and Wishes Gala on May 1, Greenfield said.”We’re also selling Shine Wine, which is a limited release from Griego Family Winery,” Greenfield said. “And then we have World Wish Month coming up in April, where we really try to raise funds for our wishes, and there’s things going on all the time.”Such as a run with Wise Pies. Kids for Wish Kids, at schools for specific wish kids. And Dine to Donate, a fundraiser where companies or schools sponsor it on behalf of Make-A-Wish and donate the proceeds to them. “It takes a lot to grant wishes,” Greenfield said. “The average wish right now is $7,000, and it’s increasing because of inflation, and we need to meet those needs.
