Ahead of the start of this year’s Super Bowl, punk rock icon Green Day is set to take the stage during the Big Game’s opening ceremony to celebrate 60 years of the Super Bowl.Kickoff is at 6:30 p.m. ET Sunday, and the group is expected to perform some of their biggest hits around 6 p.m. The NFL said that Green Day’s performance will help usher generations of Super Bowl MVPs onto the field.The opening ceremony will take place before pregame entertainment, which includes the national anthem sung by Charlie Puth. Brandi Carlile will also sing “America the Beautiful,” and Coco Jones is performing “Lift Every Voice and Sing.” The “American Idiot” band is one of multiple artists to watch as the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots face off for a rematch since their last Super Bowl encounter in 2015, when Tom Brady delivered a 28-24 win. Puerto Rican global megastar Bad Bunny will perform the Halftime Show this year, leaving much mystery for viewers as to what to expect other than a “big party,” as he stated in a Thursday news conference teasing his 13-minute performance.Super Bowl LX will take place at Levi’s Stadium in the Bay Area of California, airing on NBC.Sunday’s performance will be the first time Green Day has ever played at the Super Bowl. Band members Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool are from the Bay Area.
