Museum honors Albuquerque police’s first Black officers

To kick off Black History Month, the Chief Paul A. Shaver Police Museum is paying tribute to officers who made history as the department’s first Black male and female offficers. APD’s first Black officer was Sherman C. Noble Jr., who went on to work as an Internal Revenue Agent in Albuquerque and an FBI Agent until he retired in 1990 after 23 years of dedicated service.Jinx Baskerville was APD’s first Black female officer, and she opened doors for the many women who joined its ranks — among them, Interim Chief Cecily Barker.The museum, located at 400 Roma Ave. NW, preserves the department’s history, and is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday-Thursday.
