Sandia Crest Road closed for safety due to weather
Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office wants to prevent hiker rescues, for now.
After helping two hikers down on the La Luz Trail Saturday, the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office east area command deputies have closed Sandia Crest Road at mile marker 7.The closure is to keep more people from going to the crest “to check it out” and prevent the need for more rescues while icy conditions and low temperatures persist, a BCSO social media release said.”We promise the mountain will still be there when the weather improves,” the release said. “Please stay off the crest, postpone hikes, and plan ahead. Help us keep you safe and keep our deputies from having to risk it too.”
