Wind hitting parts of the state as some cooler air moves in
Skies still looking dry today with lots of sunshine
LOOKING DOWN ON ALBUQUERQUE FROM THE CREST THIS MORNING AT ABOUT QUARTER AFTER FIVE, WE DO HAVE TEMPERATURES DROPPING OFF JUST A LITTLE BIT GOING FORWARD, ESPECIALLY IN EASTERN NEW MEXICO. BREEZY TO WINDY CONDITIONS AT TIMES, BUT WE’RE STILL LOOKING DRY. IT’S RIGHT NOW PROBABLY GOING TO BE NEXT WEEKEND. BEFORE WE TALK ABOUT THE NEXT AT LEAST CHANCE AT PICKING UP SOME RAIN AND SNOW. IT’S NOT THAT WINTER ISN’T HITTING IN PARTS OF THE COUNTRY. THERE’S A LOT OF NORTHWESTERLY FLOW AND ACTIVE WEATHER IN THE MIDWEST. WE’RE JUST KIND OF GETTING MISSED BY IT. HOWEVER, THESE COLD FRONTS THAT RIDE THIS NORTHWESTERLY FLOW, THEY ARE GOING TO DROP THE TEMPERATURES SIGNIFICANTLY INTO EASTERN NEW MEXICO. TODAY. WE WERE BETWEEN 60 AND 70 YESTERDAY. TODAY IT’S 40S AND 50S OUT EAST. ALBUQUERQUE’S HIGH YESTERDAY 59. SO WE’RE DOWN LIKE THREE HERE IN THE CENTRAL PART OF THE STATE. AND THERE STILL WILL BE THAT POCKET OF LOWER 60S PAIRED WITH SUNSHINE ACROSS SOUTHERN NEW MEXICO. WHILE WE DO HAVE WINDY CONDITIONS IN EASTERN NEW MEXICO, WE DISCUSSED THAT JUST A LITTLE BIT AGO. YOUR AFTERNOON WINDS LOOK A LOT LIGHTER, BUT THERE WILL BE SOME BREEZES REDEVELOPING INTO CENTRAL AND ESPECIALLY NORTHWEST NEW MEXICO THIS AFTERNOON. NOTE TONIGHT IT’S A DIP BELOW FREEZING FOR MOST, AND WE COULD EVEN TALK ABOUT A LIGHT CHANCE AT SOME SNOW HERE INTO RATON TOWARDS CLAYTON, FAR NORTHEAST NEW MEXICO, DEVELOPING AFTER MIDNIGHT AND STILL POTENTIALLY CONTINUING INTO THE DAYBREAK HOUR. BUT THAT SNOW WOULD BREAK UP AROUND LUNCHTIME TOMORROW. ACTUALLY COLDER TOMORROW IN NORTHEAST NEW MEXICO. HIGHS IN THE 30S. WE’VE GOT NUMBERS IN THE 40S TO AROUND 50 DOWN AROUND ROSWELL AND CARLSBAD. SO TOMORROW IS EVEN COOLER THAN TODAY OUT EAST. AND WE DROPPED THE NUMBERS. A FEW MORE FOR ALBUQUERQUE. BUT THAT 51 ON SATURDAY IS STILL A FEW ABOVE AVERAGE FOR THE TIME OF YEAR. SATURDAY WILL STILL HAVE SOME BREEZINESS, ESPECIALLY FOR CENTRAL AND WESTERN NEW MEXICO. THOSE WIND GUSTS 15 TO 25 BY SUNDAY. DOING SOME WEATHER HEALING, IF YOU WILL. WE DO EXPECT MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES AND TEMPERATURES TO REBOUND, ESPECIALLY OUT EAST BACK INTO THE 60S. LATE IN THE DAY ON SUNDAY, THERE’S GOING TO BE ANOTHER ONE OF THESE COLD FRONTS RACING DOWN THAT WILL RESULT IN ANOTHER DROP IN THOSE NUMBERS OUT IN EASTERN NEW MEXICO ON MONDAY AFTERNOON. NOTE SUNDAY STILL A LITTLE BREEZY, FAVORING EASTERN NEW MEXICO, BUT THAT’S PROBABLY THE LATEST WIND DAY OF THE NEXT THREE OVERALL. HERE YOU GO. NORTHWEST NEW MEXICO FOUR CORNERS AREA FINALLY HITTING 50 IN FARMINGTON. WE’VE BEEN WORKING TOWARDS THAT NUMBER ALL WEEK LONG, SURROUNDED BY HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE UPPER 40S LOWER 50S. WE MAY NOT SEE 50 GOING FORWARD, BUT IT’S GOING TO BE VERY UPPER 40S FOR THE NEXT SEVERAL DAYS. WE ARE DRY THROUGH THURSDAY. HERE’S SOUTHWEST NEW MEXICO, SILVER CITY AT 61, LOWER 60S OFF THE MOUNTAINS. THIS IS THE WARMEST CORNER OF THE STATE THIS AFTERNOON. WHILE WE DO DROP THE TEMPERATURES FOR THE WEEKEND, IT’S ONLY BY A FEW DEGREES. WE COULD SPIKE TO 60 MONDAY. WE’LL KEEP IN THE UPPER 50S WITH DRY SKIES AT LEAST THROUGH THURSDAY OF NEXT WEEK. HERE’S SOUTHEAST NEW MEXICO, BIG DROP. WE WERE UP AROUND 70 YESTERDAY. WE’RE DOWN LIKE 15 TODAY AND WE COULD BE EVEN COOLER TOMORROW WITH SOME CLOUDS AROUND SUNDAY. WE’RE BACK TO 61. THEN THERE’S THAT NEXT DROP THAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT MONDAY INTO TUESDAY, LOWER 50S WITH THE 60S BACK WEDNESDAY, THURSDAY. SO WE STILL KIND OF RIDE THE ROLLER COASTER OUT IN EASTERN NEW MEXICO. MUCH COLDER DAY OUT IN THE NORTHEAST TODAY, 40S TO AROUND 50. WE’RE ONLY AT 39 IN LAS VEGAS TOMORROW WE’RE UP AT 57, SUNDAY BACK DOWN TO 45 MONDAY. BACK INTO THOSE 50S, THOUGH FOR TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY. SO JUST RIDING THE BIG DIPS IN THOSE TEMPERATURES. NORTH CENTRAL NEW MEXICO WE’VE GOT TEMPERATURES IN THE 40S AND LOWER 50S FOR THE ESPANOLA VALLEY IN SANTA FE WE’RE NEAR 50 DOWN AT 45 TOMORROW BACK TO AROUND 50 SUNDAY. MONDAY. WE’LL KEEP IT RIGHT AROUND 50 WITH THE DRY SKIES AT LEAST INTO NEXT WEEKEND FOR THE ALBUQUERQUE METRO. IT’S MIDDLE AND UPPER 50S TODAY, DOWN JUST A FEW COMPARED TO YESTERDAY. STILL WELL ABOVE THAT AVERAGE HIGH OF 48. WE ARE ONLY HITTING 51 TOMORROW, AND IT WILL BE A BIT BREEZIER THAN TODAY, SUNDAY MONDAY. BOUNCING BACK INTO THOSE MID 50S. AND THAT’S THE TEMPERATURE RANGE THAT WE’RE GOING TO HOLD ON TO AGAIN NEXT WEEKEND. COULD BE THE THE NEX

Eastern New Mexico is under a wind advisory early this morning for potential wind gusts out of the north at up to 50-55 mph! While the strong winds will settle out east later this morning, there will still be some breeziness later this afternoon, especially across northern and into central New Mexico. Temperatures will be running a little cooler today for central and western New Mexico, and they will be significantly cooler over the eastern part of the state, lower by 15 to almost 20 degrees in some spots! While the weekend still looks dry for most, Saturday will be a cooler day with even a slight chance at snow showers for far northeast New Mexico during the morning, but no significant accumulation is expected. Saturday will still be breezy in spots and does look like the coolest of the next 7 days ahead, but even at that temperatures will still be a little above mid-January averages.Sunday should be dry statewide, and the afternoon should bring a bit of a temperature rebound with lighter winds. Looking ahead to next week, more mild and dry skies are filling up the forecast – however we will be watching next weekend for chances at rain and snow to possibly make a return.
