Suspect in parade crash faces vehicular homicide charge

The man who drove his car into a crowd of pedestrians during the Kayenta Light Parade earlier this week now faces a vehicular homicide charge.Stanley Begay Jr. allegedly drove his vehicle into the crowd during the event on Monday. A 3-year-old child died as a result of the crash. Begay is currently in custody and is scheduled to be arraigned on January 13, 2026. Under Navajo law, the maximum sentence for homicide by vehicle is one year in prison and a $5,000 fine. There is a chance that federal charges could also be filed against Begay under the Major Crimes Act.
