Tropical Storm Vance sends tropical moisture our way Thursday/Friday followed by a powerful Pacific storm on Sunday
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. —
We have another foggy spot to wait out early this morning, it’s the Santa Rosa area and down into Fort Sumner with ¼ mile visibilities being reported so know you will encounter some difficult travel conditions and there is a stretch of I-40 that could be awfully slow in the vicinity of Santa Rosa. Otherwise it’s a cool fall morning that will give way to a sunny and mild afternoon, just an absolutely beautiful fall day ahead for most! We say most because we will have to watch Southeast New Mexico, areas around Roswell and Carlsbad for a slight chance of isolated rain and thunderstorms this afternoon.
Better rain chances will be working into Southern New Mexico on Thursday afternoon and evening, this moisture is associated with the leading edge of a tropical push from Tropical Storm Vance. As moisture from Vance continues to push into the southern and especially southeast part of the state overnight and into Friday morning, concerns of flooding and flash flooding will return to that part of the viewing area. These heavy showers look like they will track right up the New Mexico/Texas state line during the day on Friday, whereas most of the rest of the state will only see a slight chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms.
For our Halloween Saturday, the computer models are currently trending drier and less active, making for what will probably be a pretty nice fall day for most with just a slight chance of isolated showers – so some good news for the Trick or Treaters!!! Then on Sunday it still looks like we are in for a powerful Pacific storm to plow in from the west making for a pretty wet finish to the weekend. This storm could linger into Monday with some leftover showers and also some mountain snow for the northern part of the state. In the wake of this storm we are going to ride out at least a few days with much cooler temperatures.
