The country star previews her newly-announced Middle of Nowhere Vol. 2: Tex Mex Tapes with “Weekend in Texas” and “Mi Tesoro”
Kacey Musgraves isn’t leaving the Lone Star state anytime soon. The proud Texan continues to honor her beloved home state — and its borderland history — with Middle of Nowhere Vol. 2: Tex Mex Tapes, a deluxe version of her 2026 LP Middle of Nowhere. Musgraves is previewing the new project with two songs, “Weekend in Texas” and her own rendition of norteño classic, “Mi Tesoro.”
Over ranchera-inspired cowbells and a pedal steel guitar, “Weekend in Texas” is a fun romp that finds the singer as witty as ever as she says adios to an ego-driven ex and returns to Texas. Meanwhile, the country star slows it down on “Mi Tesoro” as she covers the norteño track, originally performed by “the godfather of norteño” Cornelio Reyna.
Earlier this month, the country star released her first full original Spanish-language song with the rerecording of “Uncertain, TX” alongside Texan band Intocable. Middle of Nowhere Vol. 2: Tex Mex Tapes will feature two more Spanish-language songs from Musgraves as she continues to honor the Mexican influence on Texas country music.
“Weekend in Texas” and “Mi Tesoro” are just two sneak peeks into the 16-track Middle of Nowhere Vol. 2: Tex Mex Tapes, which is set for release on Jan. 15, 2027. Check out the full track list below. On the new project, Musgraves will further explore to lean into the in-between chapter of her life as she grapples with themes of solitude and contentment.
The news of the deluxe comes just as Musgraves is set to wrap the 34-date U.S. leg of her Middle of Nowhere tour on Oct. 27. In January, the singer will bring the trek to Australia and the U.K. for a handful of dates.
